Agree on Nestrasil, I was impressed and I agree on your point about Terry and Boychuk. He's a big body and did not look out of place, which is more impressive given his arrival with a new team. Perhaps his familiarity with coach Peters helped.

My biggest concern is two-fold: Why does this team seem to be completely unable to find any real consistency? Game to game, period to period and even shift to shift, the consistent effort is just not there. The second part of that concern is the span of time over which this has been a problem. When's the last time this team consistently played well and let you believe they were in almost every game? 2005-06?

The Canes should have had this game in the bag (no offense intended against the Avs). Berra looked terrible (great move by Roy to change it up when he did) and Pickard looked uncomfortable, spitting out big rebounds. The Canes did not show a killer instinct when they really could have sealed this game. Instead, Colorado was allowed to hang around until their top players started to hit their stride. Very frustrating game. Perhaps just as frustrating was my complete lack of surprise at the outcome.

How do we change what we've come to expect?

Even though the Canes ran out of gas at the end...there were possitives! several, in fact... 1st game for a big young winger- 1st goal (in NHL), GREAT pass/ goal for Skins and Lyles, ...others. The negatives were more a product of "mile-high-fever" IMO, than lack of effort! Peters (and staff) are doing a pretty good job of building a fast-skating, hard-working, and CREATIVE group of "UNDER-RATED" HOCKEY PLAYERS!
We are early into a rebuilt/ redesigned/ and well-structured team... and in a few weeks i believe this team will be a team that's BRUTAL to skate against!!!
The empty seats at the arena are a sad result of the poor job of child-rearing by my "boomer generation"... attitudes caused by our failure of teaching a strong "work-ethic", respect, dedication and appreciation for same...

And because the team sucks and has sucked for several years now.
