How dare you mention a trade. People around here seem fine with playing 4th line wingers with Sid and Malkin. It seems like they don't understand that you have to give to get. I've never really seen perron play, who does he resemble and who would he fit with? |

How would bortuzzo help Edmonton? They need a lot more than a bottom pairing defenseman. |

You know how those Alberta teams seem to overvalue toughness and stuff... I don't think that he'd the the center piece of any deal, but I think that Edmonton might be more excited about that part of his game than they should be, and could add some value to a trade. |

Deja Vu. Seriously. This has been the same issue with this team for years now, but for some reason management never trades any dmen for forwards. |

I didn't go back and read anything from the last couple of days, I'm sure it was all level headed and full of patience
Ryan is right, Downie is what he is... We were all under the impression that Tocchet could reel him in, but that doesn't seem possible. At least he only has a one year deal. Still a decent enough hockey player, but his ice time needs cut down drastically late in close games. Either he'll do something stupid and take a penalty, or he will be involved in a physical play and end up getting an extra minor for being Steve Downie.
Islanders are a good hockey team... they have replaced the Flyers in my mind as a team that I'd want to avoid in the playoffs. However, it did seem like the Islanders get up easier for a November game against the Pens than the Pens do against the Islanders. Hopefully that motivation is better for the Pens in the playoffs. |

Mac looking for a top center for Perron, per Dreger. I guess we'll see. |

Their problem seems to be a lack of talent on the blue line, they have a ton of bottom pairing guys, they need more top tier talent, a second line center and a coach who can actually get through to their kids that they need to be more responsible with the puck and play a tighter defensive game. Actually, there's a lot more issues there as well. I feel bad for oilers fans. They don't deserve that. |

The Islanders issues over the past 15 years or so are well-documented. However, it was just a matter of time until their young talent came to fruition. They are absolutely on the right track and should only get better as they mature. This is all good news for a battered fanbase. The hard-core Isles fans deserve better. |

Big move was getting an actual NHL capable goaltender this summer too. Garth Snow gets some abuse for a couple of his missteps, but overall he's put a good team together, and has locked up some very good players with great cap hits.

I'll never doubt Dupuis in anything... He's made a career out of proving people wrong.
He's on blood thinners for 6 months, if all goes well, that gets him done in mid May. Imagine how big of a lift that would be to get him back to start a conference final series?
(I know, a ton of "ifs" in that scenario, but that would be awesome!) |

This is a good assessment. I feel Eakins is doing what he can with what he has. The team is a mess and he can't win with it.
The reason there hasn't been any trades I'm thinking is because all the teams are trying to lowball the oilers, just like this blog wants too. And why wouldnt they?
Mact knows what we need. He'll us armchair gm's know; but he's not going to make a deal to make us worse

Eakins is in over his head. He keeps changing line combos and D pairings desperately hoping that something clicks, but doesn't leave any together long enough to gauge if they work. He had new players this year but still kept AHL guys on the team right to the last pre-season game when better teams had gotten down to their opening night rosters for the last week to get ready for the opener. He continually makes excuses for his players poor performances without holding them accountable. His NHL inexperience is not what the Oil needed but that's just 1 of the many things wrong with the group that management put together. Getting an experienced NHL coach in place of Eakins has to be part of the solution going forward IMO.
