Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Review: Horvat Makes His Case, Hamhuis Hurt, Acton Rookie Bo Horvat made a strong case to stay in the NHL when he was named first star as the Canucks fell 4-3 to the Anaheim Ducks in a shootout on Thursday at Rogers Arena.

Does it hurt, ya obviously when u play somewhere for 10 yrs & give your heart & soul every night. It is what it is, u move on go home, re-energize.

Guessing the Canucks dressing room is more spacious this year without RK and his ego. The guy thinks he is hard done by or something. diva.

"Kesler seems to be comfortable overlooking the very limited list of trade partners that he offered to the Canucks."

By very limited do you mean 1.

Pretty tough to negotiate with no bargaining power, but Benning came through.

The Kesler thing is old news; I think most people are happy with the return especially with the injury to Hamhuis, if we didn’t have Sbisa the team would be in real trouble. If they plan on a playoff push they better figure out a way to get some defensive depth pretty quick. The weakness is glaring with this team, the price is high to fix it and its not going to get any less.

I am not sure there is any comparison to the Luongo wanting out situation and, what is now dubbed the ever-so-cool "RK-17". This man deserves a nickname but it is not "RK-17".

Lou will always be a sympathetic figure in these parts. He is 1/2 goalie, 1/2 folk hero.

His number will be retired... actually, it is hard to retire Goalie numbers (1,29,30,31,35) as there are fewer to choose and those who do choose are unusually pretty sensitive about superstitious things like numbers.

Definitely the Ring of Honour at minimum.

OFF TOPIC --- only the leafs could screw up a feel good story by winning and piss away all that by not saluting the fans.

What the hell were they thinking?

Missed the game but saw the highlights and Hammers injury. Don't want to draw parallels but this is the same time of the year last year when Santorelli went down on a nothing play and the wheels came off. I really hope JB is hard on the phone looking for some d depth.

Unfortunately he won’t be dealing from a strong position when it comes to D. The question is band aid or long term; the price is high either way.

NO, getting a d-man is going to mean giving up prospects, which would be Vancouver getting back into old habits.

What are you talking about? Don't you know it's an absolute privilege to watch the Leafs play? Who do these fans think they are?

Let's see what Corrado can do.

I'm a believer that canucks have to start playing their rookies to see what we have, especially with a new GM. We've been discussing Corrado for the past two seasons. Let's see if he's progressed.

Frank Corrado is not an answer, I would be okay with him getting packaged up with a center and a pick for a quality defenseman.

If Corrado is our answer, the team is franked. You need someone who is playing regular NHL minutes 20 +/-

I've never understood why you would honor an active player (who isn't playing for you) there is plenty of time once Kesler retires to pay him tribute for his years of service, but during a divisional game where points are so important, stupid IMO.

Agreed, i don't think the situation is that dire.

Top 4 of Bieksa, Edler, Tanev, Sbisa is decent with Stanton, Weber, Corrado and countless other call-ups available.

Grabbing someone of waivers, such as Schlemko last week would have been a good move.

Even 7th defenseman are getting decent value back nowadays.

I'm still intrigued by Bobby Saguinetti who's apparently been Utica's best d-man.

Wonder if they could get a guy like Elliot(COL) or Schlemko(PHX) for a random AHL prospect like Alex Friesen or even Joe Cannata who should probably be in the AHL.

Every NHL player started as a rookie, some got eased into the lineup some got thrust into it. If Corrado is in it will likely be third pairing minutes. A more accurate statement would be if Weber is the answer (to a Hamhuis injury) the team is franked.

I'm not sure why Corrado continues to be the first call-up. Feels like he's a guy that would be better served playing top-4 in the A consistently instead of being bussed up and down. Sanguinetti on the other hand is more than capable of playing that 7/8 D role and probably isn't going to be any more than that at this point anyway

Let's see what we have in the system before we look at guys on other clubs that couldn't crack their teams.

Joe Cannata should be in the AHL.

Maybe Benning will pull a rabbit out of... Zogg, need yer help here...

Corrado looked better a couple years ago when he was called up for the playfoffs and hasn't been as good since. But as the saying goes, 300 games for defensemen to start showing their stuff.

Don't want to give up prospects for rentals.

And I agree, anyone in an NHL lineup should be getting regular icetime or shouldn't be in the lineup. Won't make it past Christmas with Edler and Bieksa playing 25min a night while giving others sheltered minutes.

Getting Elliot would be a hell of a move, still can't believe that kid made it through waivers.

From my point of view he's already better then (frank)ing Weber with a high probability of improvement, would look nice gunning the second PP.

But ya, Santeguinetti or Tommernes could easily step in.
