I agree Bill, not sure why there are still a bunch of skeptics on Mason. Since he got here he has played very well. He has outperformed anyone we have had in the net in the past 5-7 years, playing with a defense that is not as good as we had a few years ago. He gives us a chance to win which is more than we have been able to say for a long time. Quit the worrisome and be happy with what we have got for what we have paid.

Most of the skeptics (read: haters) I've seen have not been Flyers fans.

Umberger might be better served on the forth line at this point. Maybe try something like 78-40-42 as the third line since PEB is the only other moderately skilled player that could be in the top 9. Then have a 4th line of 18-76/41-36 or maybe Jones on third line LW with PEB at center on the forth. Either way, with the recent play of Umberger and the injury to Raffl, the Flyers are lacking forward depth.

Ya true everyone likes to crap on the Flyers for their goaltending woes of course but I think we have got it right now, at least for the time being.

I find Mason to be adequate which hasn't been something you could say about the goaltending for the Flyers very often in the last 25 years.

I don't think he'll defeat the skepticism until he's had a few good years, being realistic. Fair or not, he's got some bad history to justify the player-hating.

Agreed, I'm just glad to have an acceptable tandem and minimal drama at the position.

Maybe in the second. We could use a forward this season everything being equal.

Stolarz has been getting the short end of the stick in Allentown. I think he's played well in the two games I've seen him.

Funny how Mason's critics go silent whenever he gets in a good groove, which has been the case far more often than not since Mason came over from Columbus at the 2013 trade deadline.

Mason has a .920 SV% in all his games as a Flyer, but there's a large contingent in the media who desperately want him to revert to how he was behind an awful Columbus team in his early 20s. The time when most goalies get to work on their game in the AHL.

I know that was some sarcasm, I'd like both positions to add some depth.

I'm torn... Fat Schenn has been the weakest link on the blueline... but he's the only righty in the group. Not sure if having another lefty in for him is a net plus or not.

Akeson could hang in the top 9 and should be there in place of Umby imo...no slight on PEB who has been quite good.

Mason reverting allows a contingent of writers (mostly national ones) to rely on old narratives rather than working to find new ones. That's why they root for such things.

They definitely need, at least, one other young goalie in the system that has a shot at the NHL. I don't know if you want to put all of your eggs in the Anthony Stolarz basket.

You could glue skates to a traffic cone and replace Umberger with it.
