This is something with bite- should be able to fetch a decent return and we are selling high with both players for the most part- if we had a signed petry it should even sweeten the deal... If Philly is offering I would try and pry B. Schenn and Coburn with that above package and or even take just both Schenns- that way you dont have to add much... for the Coburn deal you have to add a 1st or some form of sweetener

The complicated thing from a cap perspective is that we're paying for 5 top 4 dmen: Ference, Schultz, Nikitin, Fayne and Petry. The likelihood (if we retain Petry) is that that number will go up next year.

Lots of Oil fans have said we're still looking for a #2 dman and I disagree. In the next two years Petry or Schultz can fill that role IF we have a top dman.

But installing a top dman won't be as simple as finding one. We'll need to send one of these guys out.

Myers is going to be expensive. No one cares that you dont want to pay the high price for him you will have to. If you are not going to trade Eberle then you are going to pay a high price in young talent.

I wouldnt give you Draisaitl for Myers straight up. Your asking for one of our best d prospects, our future #2 C, our current #1 Dman and a 1st which would be a lotto pick if we took this trade for Myers who you guys are going to trade for a handy to detroit, a soft C and a soft dman prospect.

The positive thing is the Oilers have put some wins up; the pressure is off for the time being. Adding D right now is too expensive unless you put together a creative deal which is not easy either right now. A 20 min plus D will throw you into a bidding process and you will overpay. Keep on winning and wait for that right deal.

A top dman for Edmonton doesn't necessarily meaning a top dman for the top 15 teams either. Trading for a number 2 on a solid team or even a number 3 on a REALLY deep defensive team might suit just well enough. It would have to be a solid stay at home defenseman who plays like Chelios or similar did, gritty, shutdown, checking, keep the (frank) out of my zone type guy.

Getting a Doughty, Pietrangelo, Kronwall, Chara, Keith, is not going to happen, but several teams have players like Ericsson, Hjarlmasson, Shattenkirk, Voynov (at some point), etc.. that could be had realistically with a top six player and a mix of roster players/prospects/picks.

I think you need adult supervision

A top dman for Edmonton doesn't necessarily meaning a top dman for the top 15 teams either. Funny thing I am not kidding by much. Too many people are like well Myers sucks I will give you a 4th and a 7th round for him but want him to be there #1 Defensemen. No one is walking away without paying a premium for Myers. That means a Eberle, or Mantha, or A top end Prospect and a First round pick. Too many people think Myers will get sold for Peanuts and he will not be. Some 3rd liner and a 4th or 5th defensemen will not get you Myers and too many people think so.

That would never happen. The Oilers don't need Myers, they need a solid D that you can get for a fair price. Not what you're suggesting, that's why he will remain a Sabre until the price gets workable.
