JC played well now he needs to build on that game.If gryba is suspended ,then the league needs to ban all hitting. Because that one was clean,as was the Eller hit .

Condra played well.

We are spoiled watching Karlsson. He dominated the play whenever he was on the ice. Most important, he seems to be adapting his game towards winning.

I think this team continues to improve as the season goes on.

Gryba will likely get a suspension, because a) he will be considered a repeat offender dating back to the "Player 61" and "Player 81 incident in the playoffs a couple of seasons ago; and b) John Moore was offered an in-person hearing for a very similar hit the day before, which could bring a suspension of 6 or more games. Moore is also a repeat offender.

what's the "cut off" date for being a repeat offender?

regardless, the primary point of contact on that hit, as seen in several angles and picutres, was shoulder to chest. there was contact to the head on the follow through, but that was after initial contact, and largely due to the fact that he had his head WAY down.

as for the comparison to moore's hit.....i don't really think they're the same. moore blind sided the guy, while gryba was straight up to him.

i personally think that hit was textbook, and very clean.......if it gets a suspension, it just cements my opinion that NHL discipline is a complete joke. that probably shouldn't even have been a penalty.

He should have never been a repeat offender,Eller ,s hit now Anisimov ,have both been huge overeactions.

Gryba ,s getting punished for being big ,of course when he truck,s someone they are likely to get hurt.He is 6.4 235 pounds for christ,s sake

Yep one of the better bottom pair guys out there ,the league needs to lay the hell off him and suspending him for clean hits however

What? Karlsson had about 10 minutes where he was stripped of the puck about 4 times and playing with the intensity of a scrimmage with kids, just from his turnovers we were outshot about 7-0. I thought he looked bad last night for large parts of the game, then he scores so all is good. But Karlsson gets danced on for large parts of the game and he doesn't do much to make up for it.

Ceci was our best player last night and our is our best 5 on 5 Dman. Lehner was our best player actually but Ceci was the best skater.

Cowen looked good, you could see he's taken the coaching to heart but his confidence was still there, happy to see him have a good game. Had some nice plays and a bad read on a 3 on 2 but he skated well and pushed the puck around really well.

Loved how Lazar jumped in after the Boro boarding hit, Ottawa has had a history of not responding to hits so I'm glad Lazar got in there with a nice facewash, our team needs this.

Ryan looks like he's heating up, he's moving much better and is playing like he wants to be the difference maker.

Condra had some nice 50km/H wristers from the blueline.

i like ceci, but you realize that he has the worst possession numbers on the team right? he is far from our best 5v5 d-man

Cowen was fine.

I don't think Gryba's hit was bad. It looked like shoulder to me personally. I'm sure it was made infinitely worse by Anisimov and the longing gaze he was giving the puck at the point of contact. It certainly wasn't late, but yeah, maybe he'll get suspended since he has been suspended before. Although again, the hit he got suspended for on Eller was a case of Gryba being a frost giant. So I dunno, I actually think 5 and a game was overkill, I didn't even think that hit warranted a minor.

Tropp's hit on the other hand, that was charging to me, and hitting from behind, and he should get a couple games.

Regardless, I figure that Borowiecki might miss a game, and I figure that Gryba might get a game or two, and since Methot won't be ready by Thursday, that'll check Wiercioch back in, and I figure that Chris Wideman plays his first NHL game against the Blackhawks. Or Claesson.

Regardless of possession numbers, he passes the eye test. He skates it out and rock solid defending. Easily been the most consistent Dman this year and absolutely the best 5v5 to date.

you do realize that the numbers are a reflection of what happens on the ice....right?

i love ceci, and i think he's playing well for his age, but he spends a TON of time hemmed in the defensive zone. he's developing nicely, but is far from our best 5v5 d-man

Maybe they put him on the ice with our bad faceoff men and that explains it? His point shot when we were killing the 5 minute penalty completely turned that PK around and Columbus did nothing for the next 3 minutes.

And Ceci's pass to Smith on the 2nd goal - what a beautiful play (nice finish also) but Ceci's play last night to me was the difference until EK scored and we ran away with the game.

Also Chiasson I really like, when he improves his skating he will score 30 regularly

I found it ironic the team played significantly better when Gryba and Boro (hope he is ok) left the game. Neither add significant value to this team. I don't think Gryba's hit was awful, but look at the NHL today, those get called. You simply can't hit guys in vulnerable positions even if they are asking for it. It's reckless. Lehner and the penalty kill played lights out to bail him out. Boro's play half the time is just stupid. There was no sense of him fighting Boll on a standard hit on a mediocre teammate. Once they both were out of the game the team seemed to play better and our remaining 4 d-men seemed to get into a nice rhythm. Also helped Columbus was missing a few players and playing a mediocre goalie. Good win to build some confidence.

i agree that ceci is good once he gets out of the D zone, but he sometimes struggles getting out.

i do think he'll be a great player though.

i agree about chiasson......there's just so much to love about his game

There was that sequence in the 2nd perios were Coumbus won about 7 faceoffs in a row and Woznewski had 7 shots in about 8 seconds on game time (which set CLB up for the Atkinson goal with that nice little decoy play at the point) but I thin Ceci was on for all of those plays - I don;t know what this does to your stats line but he is litterally not involved in the play at all and CLB registers 7 shots against in 8 seconds - stats can be misleading

wasn't that all during that 5 min PP......if so, doesn't count towards his possession numbers.

either way, i agree that he is playing pretty good, and will be very good.......but i don't agree that he's been the best 5v5 d-man on the team.

I like Ceci but saying he played a better game than Karlsson is a little off base. Home teams (Columbus last night) priorize stopping Karlsson. The idea that Ceci could be equal to that at his point in his career is improbable.

not sure you're thinking of the same hit.

he's talking about when Boll hit Gryba, not when Boro was hit.

Yeah ,there was something fishy about that hit they mentioned it on the broadcast. But as far a Boro and gryba they have been great ,and i want a team that sticks up for each other mediocre or not
