You mean a pairing of Hunwick/Kostka doesn't excite you? |

Henrik Lundqvist:
Lundqvist had possibly his best game of the year. He was strong positionally while also looking confident between the pipes. Lundqvist was bailed out by Matt Hunwick, who prevented a goal by sweeping the puck off the goal line but that really was his one possible bobble, as the rest of his game was spot on. The end result was Lundqvist's 51st shutout of the season.
Shutouts in over 1000% of the games played so far... no wonder he looks confident. |

Looks like Staal reads my posts, he played a hell of a game last night. Really nice to see Hags with some passion again. I think a key to this season will be finding a productive fourth line. They weren't bad last night, but they had me wanting more. |

They would recall Allen and throw McD on the right side if Girardi can't go tomorrow night.
Good thing here is that the schedule gets really light the next 11 days. |

A foot contusion isn't that serious. I think coach let him sit, the rest of the game, because the Rangers were looking strong and already had a solid three goal lead when this injury took place. |

Nice blog Jan. One thing that hasnt been talked about much is the failure of the PP. Its bad and will cost us some games if it doesnt improve soon. I know boyle and stepan are out but we still have enough talent to at least score 1. |

The entire team played well last night. Not a single Ranger player looked less than par.
The fourth line looked really good last night. It looks like, when at full strength, the team's likely healthy scratches will be Mueller and Hunwick for now. I can live with this; Mueller looks like a good depth player that can spot start when needed. Duclair looks almost assured to head back to juniors and that is not a bad thing. Don't want to stifle this kid's development and he already has proven he can handle the pro game now. Just imagine a year from now when he bulks up a bit and returns to camp with the knowledge and experience he gained this time around. |

Not having a pure power play QB is apparent here. Boyle is missed tremendously on the man advantage. |

MSL QBed the PP in Tampa for years I believe. He definitely played the point on it at least. |

There's a huge lack of confidence with the puck. Not a lot of plays being made with the man advantage. You are right though, there is enough talent here to still manage a power play goal or two. |

He would gone 1st overall last year. No doubt he goes #1 this year. Sucks for Jack Eichel, cause he's good enough to be a 1st overall in most drafts. |

Eichel, as a 17 year old, has 4 points in 1 game in the NCAA. |

Edmonton is off to a terrible start yet again. It's pretty amazing how consistently bad they are given how many times they have drafted at the top of the draft in the last several years. Makes you wonder whether at some point soon, some of their top young players/prospects can be had for a reasonable price.

Yes and every offseason they seem to fill their holes like lack of nhl defenders, goaltending, size, grit, experience, etc. and it just never comes together.
I look at their roster and outside of goaltending and the lack of a #1 defender I see enough talent toat least finish 10th in the conference. |

Think it was just in a real bad spot. Looked like it was right above his achilles. Going to be a female dog to heal without keeping the leg from not moving. |

I think thats why we're always hearing rumors about a Yakupov trade. |

i like the contrast between the top two lines and hope they keep them intact. they've got a pretty dam big first line in kreider nash and hayes and a speedy line in zuccarello st. louis and brassard. it could make it tough for teams to come up with a plan to counter that. |
