Jack Eichel. No worries, McDavid on the brain. Can't get any worse for you guys, if the kids get some confidence they can still go on a run. Literally only one week in!

"Embrace the suck"?

I've heard of troll bloggers, hell I even read one here for a while, but you're supposed to be trolling other teams fans, not the ones who cheer for the team you're writing about.

You're a drama queen dude, and while I keep hoping you'll write something entertaining, I see it just ain't gonna happen.

When people wonder why the draft lottery odds were changed, remember this blog -- everybody gets that there are bad teams, and somebody is going to miss the playoffs and somebody is going to finish last

But we're one week into the season, as of Wednesday. One week. And already multiple franchises are being urged to be as horrible as possible for the rest of a six-month season

are you under the impression that garner his somehow affiliated with the oilers outside of writing blogs about them on hockeybuzz?

No, not at all -- it's not just him. You can't turn around without seeing it now -- some Flyers fans are no better. Some are ready to piss away the rest of the season because of their slow start, just so they can drool over the Next Big Thing

It's not healthy for the league when people/fanbases think like this, that the only way to win is to lose big

I can assure you that most Oiler fans are really sick and tired of losing and we sure as hell do not want a lottery pick

aside from oiler fans being extremely pessimistic after a lot of failure, I don't think many actually want to finish at the bottom.

there's a ring of truth to the blog as it does look kinda bad already. and its not like we haven't seen this before. but trust me, most of us want nothing more than wins and points. fuk mcdavid

The team is not in tank mode. They want to win. They're a couple years removed from even thinking about such a thing as being viable. If they win the lottery this year it'll definitely not be by choice, it'll be due to poor management.

it certainly wont be by choice

but im not sure the plethora of options available to management.
which stars are clamoring to sign in edm? which superstars are waiving their ntc to come here?
hes gotta identify needs, then find secondary dudes who'll sign here. and overpay them.

u don't trade ur franchise cornerstone in hall. neither do you your 1c going forward.
so whos left? make a move for ebs or yaks?
possibly, but yaks is a question mark and might not garner the value he should after last year.
ebs? then ur banking alot on an unproven yaks.

so many people just assume trading a star snipe for a lesser player is the answer. that's such a slippery risky move. but one of em'll go if they continue to lose imo

its not as simple as u seem to think. but ive heard it before...

I'm just curious, were Eakins to be fired, would you guys be bothered by Todd Nelson being given the chance? While he's also a rookie coach, he's got a nicer record and has worked with our prospects. The only really viable coach with NHL experience that I can think of is Bylsma.

Personally if they did can Eakins I would prefer an NHL coach to step in as opposed to an AHL coach

I don't put much stock in nelsons work with the kids. but that doesn't mean im against him. hes been pretty successful with a team of grinders and plugs, so that means he plays a tough system and hard work id assume.

I dunno. if Eakins is fired, i just hope they go after a guy that preaches defence first. suffocate any creativity if u gotta. fuk it. just get some wins with fundamental defensive changes.
i don't have any huge preferences. the roster is fundamentally flawed which is the biggest issue imo

I wasn't implying it would simply be the present managements fault. It'd be a combination of prior and current. It's not just down to bad luck, though I don't think you're suggesting that.

no. its much deeper than 'luck'

if we're gonna talk about stuff u cant physically point to, id say fragile confidence more than anything else. i believe this group can be competitive if they could just get the ball rolling

tough to put my finger on. theres some systemic sh1t with the players and the game plan.

Exactly -- sometimes, teams are just bad. Sometimes teams have injuries, sometimes teams get old and don't see the awful season coming.

We all get it. Someone is going to finish in the bottom half of the league. It's just blogs like this that make it unseemly, like a team should embrace it's losing so it can be rewarded.

That is the mentality that has to be erased: that failure is rewarded. It shouldn't necessarily be punished, but you can't have a race to the bottom. That is a brutal business model in a sports league.
