You know there are those out there that will make a big deal of it. There always are.

Do you think that Grigorenko will stay up. If so, that is one hell of a turn around he has managed to pull off...that would be huge for this team if he turns into the real deal.

Also, now it looks like a bit of a battle between McCabe and Pysyk for the final D spot. I know Pysyk is hurt...but when he comes back, does McCabe get sent down?

I don't know why but I love those first 3 lines. If you take what we know those vets are capable of and combine that with the potential of the two kids...wishful thinking I know but it would be fun to watch this team thumb their noses at everyone that has said they will finish dead last and end up in the playoffs...
I don't need Connor or Jack if Grigo and Sam work out. I need scoring wingers instead and my 3 first rounders in this draft can land me one or two for sure...or am I still dreaming?

I think it will be Pysyk, McCabe if memory serves me correct is fresh out of college. He needs a year in the minors.

Ya what's with all this positivity crap, shouldn't we be talking about which player we should trade or how everyone we have sucks.

Sarcasm aside I agree with you completely, I hope they are good now rather than hope for one player like mcdavid to turn the franchise around by himself. I just hope it's playoffs or dead last anything between 3rd to 15th is horrifying.

There is the best case scenario that makes everyone happy.

The Sabres gel as a team. Everyone hits their potential. Nolan motivates the team to overachieve. The Sabres make the playoffs and maybe win a round.

At the same time, the Islanders fall apart, finish in the bottom five, and win the lottery for the top pick.

Time for me to stop daydreaming and get some work done.

They still need that franchise player. It may not be McDavid or Eichel, but they still need one. He's not on that roster right now. This team is not going to be an LA or a Boston. They're simply not built like it.

Yea it would be nice getting the next Gretzky but if we don't does the sky fall and our rebuild becomes a complete failure? I think we can be built like la that is the team Murray plans on emulating. I wanna win now, I'm tired of watching pathetic hockey, I miss the days of drury and briere.

Personally I think we blew it the year of the lock out. If they would have just decided to blow up the roster during the shortend season then we easily could have had mackinnen (or drouin/barkov).

Its been so long since we've had an exciting, competitive team in Buffalo that I have no idea what that even feels like anymore.

If we don't get a Gretzky? No, but if we don't land a franchise player, yes it will be. I'm not on the McDavid bandwagon but if come june 23rd (or whenever the draft is) we don't have a pick in the top 6 or 7 i will consider it colossal failure.

I'd love to be built like LA, they've got not 1 but 2 franchise players. I bet if Murray was really up for it he could pull off a few big trades and this team could be as good as the 06 drury and briere days. Ultimately we'd be very good but again not good enough and we'd be right back at square 1.

From last blog:

Here's a lesson for you all. Don't take todays apparent reality as permanent truth. Especially in sports. Things change and scenarios change over time.

8 Months ago most Sabres fans regarded Grigorenko situation as totally broken. He was a flaky, lazy Russian and the Sabres mismanaged him and fans of other teams were poking fun. Now he suddenly is knocking on being a potential stud.

Bills, another example. Half of WNY views the Orton decision is the greatest thing ever, based on almost nothing. It could be 1:23 PM this Sunday and Orton could be on his second 3 and out, and all those people could be ready to pull their hair out and cancel their #18 jersey order.

Just because they send Samson down doesn't mean its a systematic failure. People need not to be so short sighted.

- Buffalo-Sabres

Anyone who doubted him either bought in to the lazy Ruassian thing or was blind to how poorly he was being managed.

Kopitar was not drafted #1 or #2. Who's to say we don't find one at 6 or 7? It's also not inconceivable that Grigorenko or Reinhart become that guy

I think the rebuild has already happened. Maybe a player or 2 away. And not a prospect that will be 2 years away from being any good.

I like where we are now. Adding 3 first round picks and two seconds (most of which should be high) to the best prospect pool in the league can only be really really good.

To be fair, he could have done the same amount of work after the first season.

I agree overall though, giving up on anyone that quick is a mistake.

Just because you don't think any of the guys that have been drafted already can't be franchise players doesn't mean that they won't either. Most of these guys are 18-20 years old. Give them some time. Just because they weren't touted as "the next Crosby" doesn't mean they can't turn out to be great players anyway.
