Sam Carrick has been a much-improved player going back to the second half of last season with the Marlies and has given Leafs management something to think about down the road, but he has not played well enough to beat out Holland or Santorelli for the third or fourth line center spots.


I disagree, I think Carrick has looked better than Santo. I think Carricks game is tailor made for 4th line duties

generally... everyone complains about the Leafs defense... and I would have to vehemently disagree with MikeA's assertion that Talinder had "outplayed" Percy, Granberg etc.

I can't think if any occasion where I saw Talinder do something positive that the kids hadn't done as well. The notion that an older guy, who's clearly lost a step (or two or three) is better simply because he's older is flawed.

The kids are much more likely to err, and listen to suggestions on how to correct the problem.

...Kontiola has appeared to be a step behind in exhibition games and has to make a better impression in the last week of training camp to lock down a roster spot, but did not buy himself out of a KHL contract to play in the American Hockey League.

I'd imagine he'd be pretty upset, but management did promise that people would have to earn their roster spots on the ice. Last year, they said the same thing, and then just went with the vets on game one, regardless of how everyone played in the pre season. Will they do the same thing again?
