What he said makes sense even in an analytical stance...

better players have better numbers

I saw on twitter how other bloggers and Mike Schopp were all over this yesterday. It's not a big deal.

IMO its the general manager that is putting together the team its up to the coach to use those players correctly. I don't see why people make a big deal out of it. It's not like the Sabres are using the Leafs method trying to sustain a bad team that happens to be winning. The Sabres know they aren't expected to win.

The coach dismissing analytics is fine. The GM dismissing it is another story.

Nolan is right though, just focus on getting better players, the puck possession will follow

Murray didn't even dismiss it though he just said he wasn't big on it. Then said if what his eyes see and the numbers match up great if not then there is a decision to make and then the numbers usually don't lie.

Just because he isn't Billy Bean doesn't mean Murray isn't smart about it. IMO this is just a way to get people talking about hockey before the season starts. It's a nonissue.

Lol no... I just go back and forth on what sport websites I chat on... I came in here a few times over the summer during the draft but i was mainly on a separate football site.

I'm getting excited for the Sabres to start here though... I really don't think our team is as bad as people think after looking at the line combos.

Nolan is the perfect coach for the tank job this year. Can him at the end of the year and move on.

Analytics are just another tool, newfangled at that, for a GM to look at his team. It shouldn't have too much to do with day to day coaching.

For example, Nolan started Reinhart in the Washington game in a defensive zone face off against Nick Backstrom...welcome to the NHL, kid. That's a "human" decision by Nolan to throw the kid in,sink or swim style, to see how he responds. If however, after 40 games, you can see from the stats that he's struggling against top competition in the defensive zone then he better wise up to analytics. This is supposedly what Vancouver did with Cody Hodson before that trade.

Nolan has a way of simplifying things that makes them seem pretty clear. And I trust him. But, if like last year, we have a bunch of -100 Corsi games (shots, shots attempted, blocked shots) then no amount of "compete" is going to win games.

Analytics: I've said it before, it's a tool in the arsenal. If Nolan doesn't use it others in the org will.

I like our lineup for tonight. Looks more like what our team will resemble.

Like your name that came down to the no talent roster. It's not so much no talent but lack of talent. We have some players with talent but they need to play with better talent.

How do you figure? He is known to get the most out of players that aren't necessarily on the right path.

I expect an unnecessary career type year for some players
