Would the Canes really consider trading Eric Staal if they're out of it after the New Year? Maybe a package of Stepan/Miller/1st? Or would they worry about his brother getting ticked?

Yes, they would consider trading him...not giving him away.

I too really liked the Skinner/Nash/Lindholm line. Also, the pass from Tolchinsky to Terry for the goal was begging for a "that's hockey, baby" call. And the power play looked much improved already!

REALLY disappointed with Ward, though. I fully expected him to come out like a maniac and either grab his starting position back or die trying. Didn't see that. Like you said, he was put in a terrible situation for a couple of those goals, but we're not paying him $6 million+ to stop the easy shots.

He's not worth much more than that his numbers are starting to decline.

One 60 point season after the second best season of his career.... sure. Decline.

You may as well add a few younger pieces and keep rebuilding, they aren't going anywhere in the last two years of his deal.

I know it's comical you keep missing the playoffs!

It IS rather embarrassing with the quality of forward talent on the team, yes.

Peter Karmanos has put the Hurricanes up for sale.

He is asking for $420 Million.

The Whalers were purchased by Peter Karmanos in 1994 for about $48 million.

That's all I'm saying, since it's more unlikely than not you guys squeak into the playoffs, why not move him with one year left on his deal and get a solid 60pt 24 year old C, a good young 3rd liner and a 1st? Maybe Staal then decides to re-sign there in a few years and you've made out like a bandit.
