Mancina was released, and Roy was sent back to minors.
I'm curious to see how the bubble vets perform. They young kids will obviously all come in battling hard. I want the vets to either absolutely dominate, or GTFO. There seems to be this thought on most NHL teams that the tie goes to the incumbent... I want it to be the other way around. If 2 guys are equal, give it to the one that's still growing and developing. |

they should just put jones on waivers. eating up half his salary if he's picked up is doable this year |

Jones is one of those players who you would love to have in the playoffs. He can really bring it if he wants to. Just has consistency issues. |

If Diaz can't break this lineup, he won't play in the NHL anymore... |

I want to see him buy into the Hartley system this year. He played so few games last year it's hard to know what he has in him and how well he fits. |

I am quite curious about all the above as they are on the last year of their current contracts. The guys bellow are also on their last year but I am less excited about them. If the guys bellow make a reall big impact it would be a pleasent surprise in my opinion.

ya, that would be the best case.
I just really feel he's taking away a spot from young players right now though.
he was invisible when he played last year, kotalik like. And a waste on the 4th line.
with a top 3 in wings of of glenx, hudler, setoguchhi. raymond, colborne i think will earn a spot in the top 2 lines before him. And theres baertschi, JG and granlund that could make the jump as well.
Thats 5 for sure wings ahead of him, and 3 prospects that could use that time. All of which don't really fit on a 4th line role and not including players like bouma, bollig and byron that could slide up to 3rd line.
I like the competition, but I don't see him fitting any more unless he really plays hard at camp |

besides mcgratton, and maybe byron. the bottom of your list I doubt will see time unless theres a lot of injuries happening.
Joorish and cundari are ahl lifers I think since they won't be coming up in a tough guy role.
brodie and backland are playing for their big contracts. (and a lesser extent bouma, he needs to show that last year was what we can expect from him) |

Hope that the Flames will compete like they did last year, not a whole lot of top end talent, but they worked hard all year. Refreshing to see. Im excited to see what Johnny Hockey will bring to the table against NHL players. So much talent. I think Diaz could surprise, hes not bad offensively, not much of a shot though, and hes competent defensively, could be a good guy to put on the bottom pairing to let some of the younger D develop |

Am I on crack thinking that JG and Sven are competing for the same spot? Anyone see both making the team?
Also will be interesting to see all the guys that have something to proveā¦.Diaz, Seto, Brookbank. Hoping at least one will be a decent surprise.

I agree and don't agree. Sometimes putting a young guy in the lineup can actually do more harm than good. You don't actually get better as a hockey player if everyone around you is that much better than you. You are constantly skating harder to stay in the play, you are one step behind your man, etc.
I personally think you need to hit a certain point in order for NHL playing actually does you any good. I think have both Jones and Seteguchi is super benificial. They are both very capable players. If a young player doesn't play better than them they will not be in the lineup. However, As soon as one of the young guns beats them out you need to trade him. |

we're pretty much agreeing. But I'm just speculating more and looking forward by saying I think that theres enough players (young and prime -like raymond, colborne). that will be able to use his ice time this year considering that theres 5 wingers that already have proven at an nhl level that they can (hudler, glenX, sego, raymond, colborne(he's possibly iffy)). so its big time competition (which is great) for that 3rd line spot. baert, JG, granlund, bouma, bollig, byron and jones.
Thats great to have. but of those names, some of them definitely would be better off in the AHL then on the 4th line (baert, JG, granlund).
granlund last year and in the worlds should he can produce at the AHL and worlds level, and be responsible. Is it worth sending him back to see if it was a fluke? or try it at the next level. thats always the tough question. Baert needs to show he can produce and be responsible in the AHL still I think. JG, why rush him, he has maybe an edge being from the NCAA, but thats a shorter season, can his smaller frame take 82 games? is it worth the risk testing him? |

bennet out the first day of training camp with a groin issue... must be tough all this talk about how he wanted to push to make the roster and now an injury might hold him back |

Aside from the obvious rooks, I am very interested in seeing some of these guys that could fill an organizational need for us down the road. Guys like Fram, Hathaway, Padakin. I'm hoping they show well and get a chance in the AHL. |

jones is awful ...he has about a handful of good games and is pretty invisible the rest ...sit him in the press box |
