He wants $6.5M per on a short-term deal. The ask won't be any lower than that on a long-term deal.

So Columbus is now experiencing what every other team has been dealing with for years. Get used to this guys, as your team becomes more successful (translates into more revenue), your star players are going to want a piece of that revenue pie. Davidson and Clb ownership can no longer use the small market/low revenue excuse to keep salaries low.

Welcome to the NHL.

It's getting absurd. While I believe both parties are at fault here, it's hard to not put 80% of the blame on the agent and player. Demand is highly unreasonable, but you cannot as the president of the team make the negotiations public.

I agree , I guy like Davidson with all his PR experience would never go out publicly saying the terms that were offered , I think it was calculated and intentional just to demonize RJ's agent, I also see it as a way of being transparent as an organisation and showing their are no ill fate from their part.

That being said, maybe i'm taking this too far, but I think Johanson just doesn't want to play for the franchise (it makes no sense that he refused those kind of offers), either that or he really thinks he's in titled to something he's not.

On the other hand , this Kurt Overhardt guy has a history of playing hardball for his clients.

I have no issue with players trying to get as much as they can, but at the same time, they need to use realistic comps.

We are at a point where agents are using players' salaries, rather than skill/development comps., which is just plain stupid. If RJ's agent is really using Stamkos, Towes, Kane, etc.. as comps, he is out of his mind.

I think an agent would be taken more seriously if they looked at skill/development player contracts then adjust those $$ tied to the contracts to reflect the growth of revenue.

I remember Kadri wanted 5-6 mil last off season. He got 2.9

I wonder what the guy is really willing to take...4 mil on a bridge?

I put this more on RJs shoulders in regardess of who to blame. He had a good season but I dont think he should be making Hall, E Kane, Duchene, ROR, Tavares, Benn, Seguin money yet. Those are the guys drafted the year before or his same year. So yes he can make the comparrison of age and production from last year to those players and hes on par.

But those guys have had repeat years of production already and are now some are considered steals of a contract. (ROR did the same thing trying to cash in off of 1 year of production but he proved hes worth it with repeat seasons).

Remember that amount was speculated, and I think that has more to do with people/media over valuing Kadri during the dog days of summer, MacKenzie reported that and Kadri tweeted at him saying that is not true.

Sending him home was the best course of action.
The last thing you want is a toxic Overhardt client pouting his way through camp.
I'm positive that clown coaches his clients on how to make everyone around them as uncomfortable as possible, until they get their way.

Getting Kesler's surly arse out of Van will make the Canucks a better team immediately. Having a star player dragging his heels and dividing the locker room is cancerous.

Seguin signed his extension after one good season as well. I can maybe see where he'd at least want to compare to Seguin, albeit Seguin was younger at the time.

Do you understand how the cap works? That's a similar deal ROR signed with Calgary before the Avs matched. After the 2 years RJ would have to be qualified at 6 million or more.

Click the link, do some CBA and cap research.

Agreed. also, RJ's reputation is now taking a massive hit. How much could this impact both current and potential endorsement deals? His Agent's claim that he's acting as a professional is laughable.

He probably wants out of town, Overhardt did the same thing with Ryan Kesler in Vancouver by handcuffing Jim Benning to two teams, and breaking his balls every day. Trade him and move on.

I'd gladly have JK trade Johansen to you guys. For Horvat and 1st, I'd accept that.

Johansen is a great player, I'm sure a lot of people would like to have him. However I'm not sure Vancouver want's another distraction after the Sh*t show we had with Kesler, and with the same agent.

Did you even read the piece? He was offered 32M over 6 years, and turned it down.
