Be quite an interesting year in Cowtown this year. Lots of youth so anything really can happen. SB, JG and SB come in and play the way they were expected to play when drafted and things can really look good. But if JG struggles with the long season and schedule and SB still isn't ready along with SB not being quite NHL ready after being drafted then things become scary.
There's also Monahan to deal with. Does he have a sophmore slump like Huberdeau, Galchenyuk and Yak had last year? |

How soon before Giordano gets traded for futures? He's a great player , he could bring in quite a haul. Next season maybe? |

This could be interesting. Trading Gio IMO would really hurt the development of the young players. Not only can he help their confidence with having a good d-man back their to help clean up mistakes, but he also can get the kids the puck. I really wonder where our guys would be if we had anything that resembled a top pairing d-man.
The issue that does come up is whether or not Gio is going to stay after this contract. He's also going to be a UFA after next season so how long does he have value? Of course he'll always have value, but as time goes on it will drop. As we stand today he should get you a damn good young player, but as we get to next year's TDD you are looking at picks and prosects.
At 4mil I'd try swing a deal with Boston. They will probably lose Boychuk or pay him 5+mil. Could be an excellent fit for both teams. |

Might be a bit soon. They need a D Man on this club to prove they can be a #1 first. I would guess the Flames will target a blue chip D prospect in any trade . |

Disagree with the Boston trade. It makes no sense to trade for a guy you can only hope to extend. Plus Gio doesn't help the cap issues.

???
Gio does help the cap if it results in say Marchand coming to Calgary and Boychuk being dealt now. Of course it would be Marchad+, but in this scenario you are moving out 7.5mil in cap and bringing back 4mil. Quite the savings.
I'd also add two years of playing in Boston could very easily convince Gio to stick around. |

Sorry, that wasn't clear, I though you were talking a Giordano for Boychuck trade. |

Nah. I'm thinking something like Marchand and then a couple of all those secondary pieces that Boston seems to always have. |

I would like to point out that Cervenka was actually a decent player (although soft). He had 17 points in half a season. Thats 34 points over the entire season. He was judged pretty harshly because he was not this all star that he was touted to be. Also, he was brought in as a center but liked to play wing.
Regardless he was a top 9 forward who given a little bit more time might even see top 6 minutes from time to time. It would of been nice to have him for another year just to see how adjusts. 39 games and no training camp would be hard for any european to come over.
But regardless perception is reality. |

Not sure how you see all these guys being able to have bench spots. I'm being optimistic in saying Bennett is skilled enough and will develop enough chemistry with JG to make the team. That being said, my projected lineup is as follows:
Glencross - Backlund - Hudler
Raymond - Monahan - Colborne
Gaudreau - Bennett - Setoguchi
Bollig - Stajan - Bouma
Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Smid
Wotherspoon - Wideman
Engelland
This leaves out Mcgrattan, Byron, Reinhart, Van Brabant, Agostino, Poirer, Granlund, Knight, Klimchuk, Baertschi, Brookbank, Diaz, Seiloff, Cundari, Kanzig.
Considering the competition for a roster spot - anything is possible, but I do believe that the best team will be on the ice come puck drop and considering how many of these players have had a taste of the NHL, they will be lickin' their chops to get a spot, you can bet your ass the Flames will have a formidable and competetive roster come October. I'm just not sure all the players you mentioned will get a shot on the bench (injuries pending of course). I don't see room for Baertschi since he's a LW and I can see Knight/Reinhart/Granlund giving Bennett a run for his money for a roster spot but that's about it. If that does occur, I see Stajan moving up from the 4th to the 3rd to play with JG, and Granlund/Reinhart/Knight manning the 4th line center responsibilities.
Thoughts? |

Nope, but they're not signed by anybody, and I just said they're being left out of this equation right now. For all I know, Burky hooks em both onto 2-ways. Just emphasizing the competition. |

I don't think anyone picked Omark to win the Calder

But to be honest I don't think he will.
I know you are just trolling but are you saying you wouldn't want JG, SB, or SM in your organization? Because you got rid of all those oilers players.

I don't think Bennett will make the team. Move Monahan back to the third line and stajan to the second. Put Knight in at fourth line center.
