we are boned, every team around us got better. then our GM asks two of the sharks players who arguably contribute the most to leave, then they dont. how much do you think jumbo and patty took that as a slap in the face? the only improvement we made was john scott..... probably the most useless NHL "player".

unless they improve at the deadline i can c another first round exit.

I'm actually looking forward to having Stuart on the Avs...sure hes not the same guy he was 4 years ago and it was a high price tag to trade for him. But he is still a vet, an upgrade to what they iced last season (Guenin or Wilson).

Plus he still has that mean streak to him, if anything he will be making opponents think twice messing with Duchene, MacKinnon, or Barrie (Landy can handle his own). Having that presence on a young team is pretty valuable in my mind. If they don't have to roster a goon like Bordeleau bc they have guys like Stuart, Iggy, McGinn, and McLeod ready to drop the mitts, that helps with the teams overall depth.

I think they took it as a huge slap, especially after barely letting the ink dry on a new extension. I imagine it only added to the weight of the slap when their letters were removed. Thornton and Marleau aren't the problem, they are part of a collective one that pops up around mid-April. Like you say, they need to get better and that shouldn't mean dealing away two 70+ point players just to make a bold statement to the team.

I really do not understand what the GM did/didn't do this off-season to improve the team from last years disaster? Basically icing almost the same team, so maybe expecting same results? Only problem is that few other teams improved.....

The dysfunction is not just within the dressing room but the management and above as well. Kinda like the Canucks last year.

I find it amusing how the Sharks continue to fail and yet refuse to change their roster. Good luck with that.

This team needs exactly what they needed last year: playoff hardened depth. They need that hard working, vocal player (or two) that has seen the inside of a Stanley Cup Final locker room recently.

Oh, you mean like Nik Wallin, Colin White, Adam Burish, Brad Stuart, & Scott Gomez? Yeah, those types of players were surely instrumental in getting us over the hump.

Give me a farkin' break.

I was really shocked Stuart didn't work out I always liked him but really never got to see much of him being in the west his entire career

Its just too difficult to tear apart such a good team id assume.
Until marleau and/or thornton prove theyve lost a step etc, how can one rebuild what is still an elite team?

I guess the problem with waiting for that is the offers are much less. But this is a team that just had the eventual champs down and out. And have been a model franchise for what?...8 years??

Even when I heard wilson was gonna rebuild I didnt fully believe it.

That's because Doug Wilson clearly doesn't know what the fark he's doing. Do you really expect a GM who has never won a Cup as a GM/Player/Coach/Stick Boy to build a successful franchise?

He sits there and complains about how he feels that his team cannot compete with teams like LA and Chicago yet he did absolutely jack farking (poop) at the trade deadline while LA went out and got their 2nd most effective forward and a key component to their Cup run.

It's like he's saying: "I have no idea what I'm going to do even though I have over 6 million in cap space and can easily move Niemi, Kennedy, and Burish and obtain a top-4 Defenseman and a better Goaltender and easily have space left over to add more Defensive depth if needed but I'm not going to because I'm not even trying anymore. Please fire me."

'a fed up fan'

Fair enough. I think u make some valid points. But from the outside looking in; the truth is wilson has built what might be considered the best franchise in the last decade overall.
For realz. Can we think of another one that has been truly elite for almost that entire span?

I can totally understand the frustration, but I think a ton of luck goes into winning a cup. The true measure in the nhl imo is sustained success.

I certainly wont discount the missteps or possible deeper problems as they just havent been ble to seal the deal. But just sayin...

Agreed. Joe and Patty take all the flak but no one else on the team has stepped up. That's Wilson's fault. They have a hell of a team that LA was extremely lucky to get past last spring. There needs to be someone other than the big 2 step up when other teams smother them.

I'm bored with what San Jose has. Oh boy easy to play offs then a total collapse as we play in the highest gear all season long and other teams have another gear in the playoffs. I would have rather seen a larger tear down and the excitement of "Are we going to make the playoffs" and see some new younger players develop. I'm sure I am in the minority with this view but the formula we have right now is not cutting it.

The author completely missed out what a rebuild for the Sharks entailed as elucidated by Wilson and McLellan in late May. It could not have been any clearer. They were going to unload players who wanted to live here more than player and that was clearly directed at Brad Stuart who forced a trade from Detroit to live closer to his family.

They also clearly stated they were going to give the younger players more responsbility and change the culture and core. Those are in non classic sense part of a rebuild which means to reshape.

Wilson has done exactly as he said. Making players via and compete for the letters now, is a brilliant move and the way it should be done. Thornton got the C because he was the best player not the best leader, now it will go to the best leader.

San Jose is still a force to be reckoned with, I refer everyone to the Boston's collapse and how they responded. Professionals athletes with pride on the line, can react fiercely. Anyone ever thought Marleau would text local beat writer stating he will be wearing a letter when camp ends.....never heard that sort of fire coming from Marleau ever......

No, it's not just you. After last season was over Doug Wilson said that the team had many options to explore and standing pat was not one of them. However, so far he has done exactly that - stood pat.
Not a very good time to be a Sharks fan.

When Mitchell left I was worried San Jose would pick him up. Veteran guy, knows what to do, stays calm. Not the best, but can certainly play. I'm glad Wilson wasn't that smart.
