The Devils found themselves in a heap of salary cap trouble heading into the 2006-07 season. In order to rid themselves of Malakhov's cap hit, New Jersey parted with a first round pick and accepted two non-NHL players...in a trade with the San Jose Sharks. Malakhov never played in another game.

Not one of Lou's brighter moments.

Yea and we always read about how badly managed the Flyers are with the Cap and player management, and how other team such as the Devils and the Red Wings, are so much better at it. But there is the above example for the Devils, and then there is Kyle Quincey, whom the Red Wings drafted in the 4th round 2003, lost him on waiver in 2008, and the Red Wings traded a first round pick to re-obtain him in 2012. Bottom line is every team has warts.

Those teams have recent cups to use to put out the fire though.

2003 is recent? May be more recent then the Flyers, but not recent.

Agreed -- anyone who has been a manager in the NHL long enough has made a disastrous mistake.

Even Chevaldayoff up in Winnipeg, who is reluctant to do much of anything, has a Top 10 pick in Alexander Burmistrov who he has mishandled terribly.

Also, while it is obviously too soon to be excited I am loving these late round picks this year. When was the last time we could say that?

A few days ago with Ian Anderson being hired there were some Jethro Tull references.

Just reported this AM that Glen Cornick former Tull bass player died yesterday at 67.

Saw his post Tull band Wild Turkey at the Marquee Club a LOOOOONNNG time ago, they were very good. RIP Glen

Two weeks to TC and I cant wait for this season especially to see some players grown through the system. They are investing heavily in the minor leagues to prevent another Adirondack situation with lousy teams and for the ECHL feeder so that players that are assigned to Reading to develop actually do with some talent around them.

Anybody local will have a good time going to see both teams in the farm system.

For those of you who have ever considered this, a pair of center ice seats as a season ticket maybe 8 rows back ( far enough so you dont lose too much at the boards) in Reading is just over $1200 for 36 regular season games, plus two playoff games and a preseason game . Sunday games this year have free parking and there are other perks for STH. Parking is $5-$7 tops, they have a lot of food promos and free souvenir tshirt and other item giveaways, every game there has been free programs and free photos for autographs (one player per game when its done) Lots of $1 food specials on Sunday games sometimes- dollar dogs, dollar popcorn, dollar nachos.

This is hockey for the people and families.

one "great move" can turn to poop by 1 bad goal from a goalie in the cup finals

No 2003 isn't recent. On the other hand 1975 and the days of the 8 track, bell bottom jeans, and paying 45 cents for a gallon of gas is! Durrrr!

Chevy is terrible. That team could get back on track with a few moves. Instead they've been on a road to nowhere for the last few years.
