I'm not saying there weren't people out there who gave Katie Strang grief because she's a woman, clearly there were, but a lot of the criticism she took had more to do with the fact that Isles' fans were stuck with a cub reporter who was learning on the fly as the only beat writer covering the team. I think it was more frustration than anything...the team has been so obscure on the NY sports scene, for reasons of its own making, that just about every paper didn't even cover them, and the only one that did would "promote" writers to other beats just when they finally hit their stride and started delivering decent content. They they'd be replaced with people who had to learn everything all over again.

Katie herself has since moved on to ESPN, and I think just about everyone would agree her stories since going there have been far more meaningful than anything she published while on the Isles' Newsday beat. I think Arthur Staple would say he's taken his fair share of grief on the Isles beat since then...the best was his tweet at this year's FA period:
