Great quotes, and if one of Eichel or mcD end up here, good to know they'll be playing with other prospects they have a good connection with.

The Darcy Regerian days of placing skill first and relegating character and leadership to lower levels are pretty much over. It was a recipe for mediocrity that caused this team to eventually blow up nearly everything associated with that approach.

Honestly I think it was the exact opposite. This team failed under the Darcy regime because it lacked any high end talent. That and the obsession with bringing in toughness to appease the fan base is what did this team in.

I believe in the necessity in bringing in leadership but I hope they don't rate it as a higher priority than skill. They need a nice balance of both if they want to compete.

My fear is that they may do this with guys like Girgensons and Compher.

I get your point...but vanek, roy, pommer and even soupy all put up excellent numbers, problem was they wilted under pressure...

that's the way i'll always remember regier's core

I don't know a lot about Compher. I know he was a day away from being in the next years draft, and I heard it said that if he were in the next years draft he would be a sure first rounder. I haven't seen him play, but I hear evaluators say he has top end scoring talent.

Has anyone been paying close attention to this kid that can give me the scoop? What are his weaknesses? What is his style and NHL comparable?

He is a ginger, so I guess he's got to be good.

All gingers are good at hockey. We should take this into account more when drafting.

Everything you just said is about Connor Hurley one of the other 2nd round picks we had that year. Compher is a blue collar 2nd line centre kinda like a Callahan with the potential to score 20 and play on the pk and 2nd unit power play

Lol.
best case scenerio for a buffalo fan.
the sabres are as bad as advertised and finish last.
the islanders suffer a few key injuries, halak does not impress, finish second last.
the blues suffer major setbacks and barely miss the playoffs, but win the lottery.
the sabres pick 1, 2, 3.

More likely. The sabres finish last and lose out on the lottery. The islanders pick around 10, st louis picks in the mid twentys. The sabres draft, 2, 10, 25.

What if:

We end up getting the 2nd and 3rd overall pick the of the draft? Would you trade the two picks to get first overall and would the team with the first do it?

Well, to be more realistic, I will be happy with 2, 10 and 25. That would give us 3 SOLID players for the bright future!!!

I would make the trade but I doubt the team picking 1st would.

It would be like trading Tavares for Ryan and Turris. They're both good players but you know you'd take Tavares over them.

Tough call, if I were the sabres I would not trade 2 and 3 for 1.

No. Eichle will be a great 1st line center and then you get another stud player in a great draft.

Not this year. The third overall would be a number one in most drafts. It would be more like trading crosby for toews and kane.

Eichel + Barzal/Hanafin probably won't be on the same level as Toews and Kane. McDavid's just on another level.

And they may have gone 1st in this years draft but they probably wouldn't go first in the one's before it.

Eichel I think projects as better than either. At lease that is the impression I have gotten from scouting sites. Hanafin would be a first rounder in most drafts is what I have read on him many tkmes.

Scouting sites made Yakupov come off as the next ovechkin. Eichel's great and all but he I don't see him being on that level. I see him as a first liner but no in that "future top 10 nhler" group.
