What I don't understand is why does Chicago get a draft choice? If you draft someone and for some reason they refuse to sign with you it should be your loss. The league shouldn't have to compensate you for it. |

GARTH'S CORNER: Hayes On Manhattan Skyline - garth
Okay, so.....what's the point here?
Edit: The question edpost above is referencing the fact that the Sabres and Otters are having a joint press conference, not about Hayes signing with the Rags. |

The Sabres and Otters having a joint press conference mean that McDavid is signing with New York? |

It would have been 100% chance had the Pens not tanked to get Mario forcing the league to change the draft rules.....but I guess you can't get too mad at them considering the Sabres are following their tanking formula from the early 2000's... |

They are stripping their captains but telling them they can retain if they have a good camp? wtf?
P.S. not a fan of the new weighted system going down to 20%. I think even 25% was not enough to give a fair chance to a very poor team |

Yea I agree. Fuking BS the way they set it up... Just b/c you miss the playoffs doesn't mean you're a poop team. But if you finish last you are def a poop team. I say it should only be between the bottom 5 at all.... |

See, I'm on the other side of this. How is it fair that your draft choice can just refuse to sign and become a UFA? Same thing happened to my Ducks with Schultz. If he didn't want to sign then fine, but why does he get UFA status? His value was basically zero, Anaheim couldn't even trade him for anything of value. |

I agree. Keeping it between the last 5-6 teams would be a much fairer structure. Teams that finish just out of the play-offs by a few points (especially in a tough division - where teams are very close together points-wise at the end of the year)) are more than likely still good teams. As a result, they shouldn't have ANY chance at getting the number one (even though currently the odds of that happening are very low, there is still that possibility, which should not be the case) |

No, it is not fair.
That means teams have to purposely tank to get a chance at the franchise player.
There is no incentive to fight for playoffs for bubble teams. |

This is just a push by Wilson to get them to waive the NMC. |

I think it means they most likely won't be there. They might waive their NTC just because of this alone. Seems like a major slap in the face. Not a good way to handle things, IMO. |

I didn't realize there had already been 2 updates. Silly me for assuming that you should post a new blog for completely unrelated thoughts.
So okay, to specify: with regards to the Sabres and Otters sharing a press conference:
Okay, so.....what's the point here? |

Yes...and I've since clarified. So I ask, again...what was the point he was making by saying that the Sabres and Otters were having their joint press conference? |

So there's no point at all, no reason for his "eyebrows are raised" and his "brow is furroughed." Got it. |

Correct, there is no reason in this world for there to be a headline. How dare he! |
