Man what an impressive year be Stamkos and Malkin. Glad I didn't have to vote. |

Goalies do have their own award, so do defensemen.
Does that mean D-men should be exempt too?
Good read as always Gunner. - dadeadhead
I haven't seen a defenceman dominate in a long time earning the MVP. But I think the team MVP is probably a dman for at least 7 teams in the NHL but not of the whole NHL.
Teams with dmen as there MVP last season (off the top of my head)
Flames
Montreal
Nashville
Arizona
Ottawa
Minnesota (maybe)
St. Louis

Malkin definitely deserved it. What I find strange is the possession thing. Malkin is WAY above his previous years. I know Crosby was out but still..
Trainers have to take the tapes from this year and show it to Malkin how they want him to be on the ice. Shoot more, control the puck more, play it safe and do his Machino thing. |

If this is regular season, Carey Price was the Canadien's MVP. |

60 goals is hard to overlook especially in a time period where people just aren't scoring that many in a season. I'm happy Malkin won and he deserved it but I don't believe it was by a wide margin. |

Stamkos had St.Louis with him the whole season. Malkin didn't have Crosby or any other all star. You have to take it into consideration. |

Nice read as always Gunner. Did not realize Geno's possession numbers were that good and minus Crosby, no less! Wow. |

Goalies have their own award so it takes a real special season to overtake guys like Malkin and Stamkos. - Ryan_Wilson
I agree to a point. However, you'd have to say the same about defenseman, as well. Also, most of the awards (Art Ross, Richard, Selke) are awarded to forwards any way.
Another thing to take into consideration is the description of the Hart, "The player judged most valuable to his team." Now, yes, with Crosby out, Malkin's value increases by a large portion. But I'd argue that, that particular year, Lundqvist was equally as important to NYR, as the Rangers scored the fewest goals in the division yet managed to snag the top seed. He allowed 2 or fewer goals 31 times that season. I'm not going to say that Malkin shouldn't have won, but fora team desperate for goal scoring, Lundqvist was the main reason they earned the top spot in the conference. |

If you spend a few more minutes here I can see the name of Giroux popping as a should've been jkg fella |

I don't think anyone will deny Lund's importance... but you gotta go above and beyond to win two MVP awards in a year as a Goalie or Dman. He went above, not beyond... being put into the top 3 in a category that is pretty much established to not include his position is a very good accomplishment already. |

That he does. I thought he was overrated in the first place, but now that he is wearing that stupid blue jersey he really sucks. - Ben37
I mean depth wise I believe he's a right winger and if I am not mistaken they have 2 pretty good top 6 rw already |

Neal and letang? |

Without Sid, Malkin definately put this team on his back. As the voting shows, about 98% of people agree Malkin should have won the hart |

Don't really see the appeal with the Rangers. There's obviously factors we don't know about in why he made that decision, but it doesn't make a ton of sense to me. |

NYC is the place to be I guess. If you like the big city, no reason not to sign there. |

The problem is the cost of living only. I think Rupp said something about it. |

Didn't realize it was one-way. They could still bury him in the minors to start the season if they really wanted to. Oh well...lets hope hes just another Tandgradi anyway. |

It's not one way, and couldn't be as it had to be standard entry level. |

Read some stuff on twitter saying they might do that as a conditioning gig. |
