Trade him for whatever you can get and be done with it.

Probably going to be hard to convince Snow to take a pick that you've already used...unless you're sending us Miles Gendron

I hope that Josh finding his game and us finding him a place in the lineup is the most of our problems this year.

I even suggested at one point last season that Bailey see a sports psychologist to try and get some confidence in his game.

He reminds me of brassard back in Columbus. Flashes of skill and talent but no consistency or production. He got complacent and his development stalled for a few seasons. After a change of scenery, brassard has become a little more productive and consistent and has noticeably improved since the trade deadline when he got moved here. A trade for bailey is likely the best option although now with some of the young kids and new free agent signings trying to take his roster spot he might be motivated to show up more often.

I think the end of your article alluded to what is really the answer. Bailey is a 3rd line player. We have all been waiting forever for him to be a top 6 guy, but It just may be that he is a decent bottom 6 guy.

He would actually be a very good bottom 6 player.

"However at some point the player has to look in the mirror and be self-motivated to maximize their potential. We saw it with Kyle Okposo last season, now lets hope with can see it with Josh Bailey."

See, it's incorrect comments like this that get people's hopes irrationally high about players like Bailey, which in turn makes them more upset when the player doesn't do it. Okposo didn't "look in the mirror" one day and decide to be good; he'd shown signs of being a good player for years. His possession numbers were always good, and he had scored 20+ goals and 50+ points in a season before last year. He just had a few injuries which really set him back. Once healthy, he had the season everyone knew he could have.

Just because Okposo did that does not mean Bailey will. The difference is that Bailey has never shown the ability to produce like that, besides extremely small spurts. If Bailey has some huge season this year, it will be out of nowhere; Okposo's huge season wasn't really out of nowhere. He just needed to be 100% healthy.

I think it happens a lot. Re-classify him and see if he works in that role.

I could point to the fact that he plays against some of the toughest competition out of all of our forwards not named Nielsen and still manages to drive the play towards the other end of the rink, but a lot of people don't like all that fancy, new-age, analytical thinking.

Maybe Jimbro can help you answer this question in between his rage-fits and declarations of jihad on the Islanders.

Untrue...and a bit tiring seeing the stat acolytes crucifying themselves every day on Twitter and elsewhere. Again, all stats, "advanced" or otherwise, tell important parts of the story, but not the whole thing and not entirely in context. Watch the games (as I know you do) and tell me Bailey, in the depths of his brain-cramp slumps, looks like an effective player anywhere on the ice.

Dan Petriw: Time to Bail?
- Dan Petriw

All that is right on, Dan. Somethings gotta give.
It would be great if Josh took control of his destiny.

I would have given him the chance last year to play 1st line instead of PMB getting first crack and then the Vanek incident. If it hadnt worked, I would have traded him. At this point I would be aggressively trying to deal him for anything of equal value. If his ceiling is 3rd line, then move him. We have enuf 3rd liners and kids knocking on the door. I think we all agree, he has talent but no passion, no drive and the tendency to make the wrong decision on offensive opportunities. I also have the feeling he was one of the players Wiz or Rolli was referring to as part of the "Country Club" mentality/environment of team. Roll all that up and it doesnt equal something promising.

I blame him at this point for where he is, as a player. He's had enuf time to get over whatever "damage" may have been done by playing at 18. He certainly doesnt have the pressure on him that JT carries (and delivers upon) so I really dont see the upside of continuing this work-in-progress. A new team could be the answer for him finding his game. He has 2 or 3 years left on his current contract, so, maybe a Lifetime script is in the making and the Isles could always theorhetically re-sign him as Free agent if the love affair is still smoldering down the road.

I do think Garth is a tad bit hesitent to give up on another of his 1rd picks but I only blame him 10%. Bails assumes the other 90% as to why he isnt a valued player for trade.

Yes, I think he can be an effective third line defensive forward. If he's not expected to consistently produce points, as all top-six forwards are, he can be pretty valuable as a third liner.

His brain cramps generally come in the offensive zone, when he does things like make the extra pass instead of shooting through a clear lane from the slot. He plays well against opposing team's top competition.
