I haven't thought about it, but I do like JJs top 5, though I'd move Price up. |

Agree. I haven't thought about it, but JJ's "now" list is hum...I do like his top 4 though. - kwolf68
I can't wait for 6628 to chime in. He either redeems me or makes mincemeat. |

Billy Smith should be in the 3-5 range of all time. |

John Jaeckel: Top 10 Goalies, Now And All-Time - John Jaeckel
Henrik Lundqvist can't be ranked #1. I personally would but the lack of a Stanley cup his resume will hinder him.
Quick
Tuukka
Lundqvist
Price
Rinne
Bobrovsky
Lehtonen
Schneider
Varlamov
Bishop |
|
|
|
Dryden was the best I ever saw. albeit played on some great teams.. But he shut Orr, Espo, Cashman, Hodge etc down as a kid.. 6 cups in 9 years. Was amazing. Also played with pads the size of shoeboxes. Not the megatron pads of the 90's 2000's |

The bottom 5 still has a couple guys that are simple not yet proven (Bishop, Schneider) and Kari as #6 overall? Hmmm.
The Bob should be up there and Varlamov missing is interesting.
And of course, how long until we start discussing Crawdaddy?

I agree with the top 5. Bottom 5 is off. |

Which ones? - John Jaeckel
Actually after looking closer I wouldn't say more than a few... But at this point I don't put Niemi in the Top 10
Off the cuff something like this for me:
Lundquist
Quick
Rask
Price
Rinne
Bobrovsky
Schneider
Lethonen
Miller
Howard
I didn't include guys like Bishop & varly (although I think they are going to be) as they haven't had the string of seasons together to include them. |

Ben Bishop better than Corey Crawford? I'd still rather have Craig Anderson as #1 then Bishop. Big Ben had 1 great season & now he's top 10
Am I wrong or doesn't Schneider have the best save % over the last 3 years? |

JJ loves Craig Anderson, so you might get him excited.
Not sure how Lundqvist is #1, when he just lost to Quick. I realize there are other factors in that, but Quick has two cups to his name. Gotta be worth something.
And Niemi... |

I think the best way to determine the "best 10 currently" would be to take the save % from the last 2 years, then give guys credit for making it far in the playoffs or winning cups. |

he's been top 5 in vezina voting twice, and was a finalist once, and would have probably won it running away in the lockout year if he hadn't of missed 10 or so games.
i don't think he belongs in the top 10, but he's a good goalie.
i'm not sure how varlamov isn't on the top 10 list. he's proved AT LEAST as much, if not more, than bishop....and is easily ahead of lehtonen and niemi, IMO. |

Plante, Hall, Sawchuck, Worsley - played most of their careers with not only pads like shoeboxes, but no mask (until Plante put one on).
So they were almost completely stand-up goalies - altho not facing that many 100MPH slap shots until late in their careers - what would they have been like in today's game with today's equipment and today's training? |

John Jaeckel: Top 10 Goalies, Now And All-Time - John Jaeckel
The all-time list is pretty good. Although I would have Hasek at #1 because nobody dominated like him in his prime. His numbers were astounding on a weak Buffalo team for many years.
The "now" list.... everybody would argue including myself. |

Where I'm at, vastly underrated by most IMO
Varlamov was/is a strong consideration |

When I look at JJ list I think he is saying Goalies "now" and taking into consideration what they ahve done in the time during their career not just now as last season or 2... Hard to judge Varly and Bishop in that circumstance |

Not really fair to a guy like Rinne who was injured last year and plays for a sub-optimal team to begin with. |

My top 3 would be:
1. Martin Brodeur
2. Domenick Hasek
3. Patrick Roy
I agree with the order of the rest. I'm glad Bernie made your top-10 (yes, I am slightly biased). |
