No love for Ryan Kesler? Come on, Vancouver even took Sbisa off of the Ducks' hands. That was a great deal. |

It was a great deal, and now that he can breathe the air of freedom more readily, maybe he can learn to use his line mates effectively. |

lost in all this is that Anaheim now has fanboy TheNucker. I'd give it a pass for that reason alone |

Spot on with Richards. People (mostly Rangers fans) have been bashing him for slowing down, his contract, etc. In the Hawks case, he doesn't need to be a superstar. Replacing Handzus instantly makes him an upgrade (and I liked Zus for his face off win % and PK). And, Kane will have the puck on his stick quite often which will open things up for Richards. He's going to do ok in Chicago (50ish points, maybe more). |

For me Briere for Parenteau was a huge win - i know we took on one year of term but we got a player that can actually play and had a decent corsi while playing on a terrible corsi team. |

Are you saying this because of Boudreau's coaching style? |

you will be sadly mistaken, unless he has a free reign offensively and Terrien doesnt mind him not playing the defensive side of the puck. Then sure its a win. Big question mark is how he will bounce back after 2 knee injuries last season. He didnt look good in the playoffs coming back from the 2nd one.
To me its a wash. 2 years of Headache (slightly better player) for 1 year of a Headache |

It's a gamble for both teams that the players will bounce back.
It's a good gamble for the Habs imo but hardly one of the greatest move of the offseason. |

I agree with you, chances are it doesn't work for the Habs in the end.
This being said, I simply cannot imagine Parenteau being more useless than Brière. |

But, but, but....Ek implied Briere is clutch in the playoffs. Too bad Therrien didn't get the memo. |

I wouldn't say it was a bashing of Richards personally and more distaste for the contract and level of production that was expcted. There are very few Rangers fans that I know that would not take B Rich on the contact he signed with Chicago. He had 51 pts last year, great for a guy on his current deal but not at 6.6M. If the Rangers weren't up against the cap, I would've bet they didn't buy him out. |

I think you will get a good start out of him, will slow down by the end of the season, to the point you will be dreading one more season with him. He will be trade bait again so you can get someting out of him.
PAP probably will be better for you guys than Briere but Av fans are split on if Briere will be more useful than PAP. I think he will be since PAP was pretty lazy skater and was a nightmare on the point with our PP. Briere to me will at least try every shift being on the 3rd line. PAP doesnt think hes a 3rd line Player.
I was not a fan of PAP as a player but others are bc he has good possession numbers. |

ARI getting Gagner seems like a good move to me. A low risk move that cost nothing. Getting a young player that always listens but just haven't been given the proper guidance yet.
I also like Boyle to NYR. Not just because they got a good player, but it gives them some flexibility with Staal being an impending UFA. Depending where the Rags are at after 30-40 games, Slats could use Staal to upgrade elsewhere. Or he can stay status quo and go with a real strong defense into the playoffs. |

Didnt mean to imply its the best move of the offseason but i think it was one of the good moves versus a large number of bad ones...Im not expecting PAP to put up 60 pts or anything but if he can be somewhere between a 40-50 pt player then i'll be happy.
We got rid of a player who likely would have been a healthy scratch half the season for a player who could potentially be a solid contributor...and we got a pick haha. |
|
|
|
The Richards deal isn't final yet. I'd wait to see who Chicago has to get rid of to get under the cap before saying that this is a good deal. |

Im not shocked about having to toss in the pick. Durign the draft Avs were trying their hardest to trade him and according to Dater had a GM qoute PAP as untradable.
Which seems a bit shocking but I think hes viewed as a 3rd liner by most teams now and 2 years at 4m is steep for a 3rd liner
We had a deal in place with the Pens for Neal that had the 23rd pick, PAP, and one of our better D prospects but they didnt want PAP in the end. |

Logical choice, but according to Capgeek that's still not enough. Plus, you'd think Chicago would want some wiggle room to make a deadline deal or in case the sh!t hits the fan. |

Moving sharp would be a mistake, but if dont correctly they could get enough young assets to really add to their prospect/young player pipeline.
But if they could send Versteeg and Rozsival in a package, that would be enough. Oduya would be a last resort since hes good. |

That would work. Just have to find some GM stupid enough to do it. |
