Or, is all of this irrelevant, and we are staring down the gun of a 14-15-22 line playing 15-minutes a night next season?

cuz i know this is what's gonna happen

Good blog Yost.. I think Greening's 6G 11A 17pts in 76 games played last season is well, a bit concerning after signing that 3 year deal at 2.65 million per. He didn't look good last year. He looked almost afraid to carry the puck most of the time. I think he has a better season next year. & if he doesn't.. He'll be put on waivers & bought out.

That size & speed though!! ........

I've wondered about this -- I've wondered if the fact that he's playing on a 'checking line' has him being coached to dump/chase/change.

But, the thing about Greening/Smith/Neil is that they're actually a very good cycle line in the offensive zone. They are just an abomination defensively. Which you'd think it'd be the opposite, but ...

If Paul wants to keep his job, he wouldn't do that.
Neil and Greening are negatives for this team going forward, and I don't understand how management can't or isn't willing to deal with this relatively easy-to-deal-with issue. Greening needs to be traded for anything (7th round pick...anything) or bought out (very unlikely).
Neil possess an "A" which is problematic. On a formidable team he would be a healthy scratch, nothing more.
By simply taking these two guys out of the lineup, you make room for a very solid 4th line of Lazar, Smith, and Condra.

It would be cheaper on Eugene's pocket to buy him out. Than to retain 50%

Neil & Greening need to play less minutes this upcoming season. No CN25 on the power play Paul!! He needs to be our "tough guy fighter" 13th forward who plays during certain games when we need his services. Greening needs to use his speed & throw his body to wear down the oppositions defense. Murray & Sens fans had hope 3 years ago that he could be a T6F, that ship has sailed wayyyy off into the sunset.

i agree. neil needs to essentially play the same roll kassian had last year.....limited games, and limited minutes in those games.

If he gets bought out, Eugene has to pay 2/3 of his remaining salary..how is that cheaper than 1/2?

According to capgeek, Teams have the ability to buy out contracts at a reduced cap hit from June 15 to 30 each year. They are also allowed two compliance buyouts in June 2013 and June 2014 that cost the team actual cash but have no salary cap consequences.

So Greening can't be bought out till next summer now anyways. I didn't realize it was as high as 2/3 of the contract had to be paid though. Tough pill for cheap @$$ Melnyk to swallow.

Either:

1) load him up on caffeine and have him hypnotized to believe he's Zach Parise

or

2) buy him out.

Reputed to be big on speed and size, he shows a willingness to only play an Inge Hammerstrom-esque game.

Leo Komarov makes just shy of 3 mill per year, for the next 4 years in T.O.

He's pretty damn close, honestly. Not that many guys make over that amount.

1. Bolland
2. Engelland
3. Clarkson
4. Greening
5. Cowen
6. Ott
7. Brewer
8. Polak
9. Souray
10. Orpik

From what i remember, Leo Komarov is more useful than Greening has been lately.

Remember, we're not comparing the fairness of the contracts, just saying "for all players who make over 2 mill minimum, rank the ten worst."

At this point, if there are no takers, you gotta play him.

I mean I've said it before, he can't possibly get much worse.

In terms of utilization, I think the Stache should just plant him right in front of the oppositions goalie, the strength is there and he's already got the frame

I think he could be more effective in that type of role.
