Nice to hear that. I just had proposed a Sutter/Scuderi for Perron a few minutes ago. I guess Dumoulin would make the deal more interesting.

Perron would be perfect for this team.

I think Perron is worth more than that.

sutter as the main piece for perron or yaks isnt interesting

even the add in of a solid prospect dman isnt what we need as we have a bunch of our own d prospects.

perron's skillset is vital to our group that doesnt have alot of physicality and willingness to engage like he does, along with the talent.

far from out of the question like maybe hall or the nuge are, but id assume it would have to be a deal that knocks macts socks off

Sutter, despres is fair value IMO. I'd add a third rounder...only because need a winger so badly.

didnt realize Perron was only 26. sign me up.

i always thought he played LW with STL, but he might have converted to RW with Hall on the left.

Kunitz-Crosby-Perron
Hornqvist-Malkin-Bennett
Spaling-Goc-Dupuis

good top 9 to me.

I read on TIOPS that scouts like 2 guys for the penguins... i dont have access so i never saw who they were but based on the picture and my opinion, i think the 2 are Ryan Carter and Dustin Penner.

thoughts on those two?

Sutter would help the Oilers in that they have nothing else at center. Unless they feel Draisatl is ready. Right now their centers are RNH, Arcobello, Gordon, Lander, and Draisatl.

Perron is an excellent winger and would be a great addition to either Crosby's or Malkin's line. Great shot, a willingness to go hard to the net and decent speed.

They are two players who if traded across for each other they fill holes.

He played both last year.

But I don't think I like Perron and Sutter as the main pieces of a deal. Fair or no, it's just not what I'd be looking for.

I think if there's any truth to this rumour, it's that the Oilers might like to add another NHL centre option to push Draisaitl/Arco/Lander, and are looking at teams who might like to make a salary-conscious move. Above all, the thing that the oilers seem most willing to give is cap space, but I understand the Pens are interested in simply dumping Sutter.

From an Oilers perspective, I think we'd get a better deal pursuing Boston's Chris Kelly, as their cap is arguably in tougher shape than Pittsburgh's.

We should do that and you should sign Penner.

Perron is in the sweet spot of what we need. Edm needs centers. The basis is there. If edm doesn't want another d prospect..would anyone do Sutter and a first?

No to the FA guys. Ahl call ups would be just as good.

Think they'd trade him in the division? Caps seem done, but if a d goes out, it has to be to clear space for a center. Though, I tend to agree with Ryan's assessments on Sutter, he's an upgrade over what we have, unfortunately.

Our new GM seems inclined on poaching ex-Pens, for better or worse. (I happen to like the Niskanen signing.)

Would love to see Laich or Brouwer get moved to you guys. Win-Win for both teams, as it gives you a big body forward, capable of top-6 plug ins that would cost relatively cheap, as we get salary for a proper center. Laich is a Saskatchewan boy, and neither's NTC are that limited. Pure speculation, but would love it.

Penner would be absolutely brutal. I honestly think I play with/against guys who think the game better than him. There's no way he'd keep up with your centers.

I was at that game against the Canadians. It was almost as if Subban intentionally got kicked out of the game because he was tired of being hit every 20 seconds. Great memory.

I like the Niskanen signing for you guys too

But since you overpaid Orpik by at least 2 million per year, its almost like you gave Nisk 7.25

I can't stand that signing....oof. I wouldn't even mind the hit if it was only 2 or 3 years. I'm not sure other teams were throwing figures near that at him...I would peg him at 4 mil, ax on this year's inflated market, and even that is brutal. My good friend from Pittsburgh who moved to Indiana 2 years ago actually is in town for a wedding, and gave me a little surprise yesterday; his Orpik jersey. Ironically, I gave him so much poop when he bought that...though it was when Orpik was still good.

I had Ehrhoff at the top, followed by Stralman and Niskanen, though I honestly though we'd get outbidded on Niskanen. People say he had "1 good year", but his stats are trending in the right direction since he arrived, while the Pens team's stats trended down, so I don't think it'll be a fluke. With that said, he won't touch his point totals unless for some reason he passes Green and Carlson the PP depth charts. I just want him to continue having a field day against opposition 2nd and 3rd lines. I'd entertain the idea of taking Ovi off the point, but our PP was deadly, so hard to ask them to fix what isn't broken, and Ovi is a right-handed shot anyway as well.

I'm hoping he takes skating lessons this off-season, and Trotz helps him transition to a a better positional defender. Rather he go the way of...I don't know Regehr than Murray. Two defenders I loved back pre-lockout and few years after, but those defenders are out. Game is too fast now..if you can't skate and think fast enough, you're out.

(frank), I'm drunk rambling...in the Pens blog, no less.

I wouldn't be surprised that the Oilers are interested in Sutter but there is no way that Perron is going the other way even when the Penguins add. He's scored 28 goals (tied for first on the Oilers) at a 3.8 cap hit. That is crazy good value for any team. The Oilers have lots of D Prospects and I think they have settled on their game plan for the blue line this season. Hopefully the Oilers solve their problem at center (they are way too thin) but they aren't going to rob Peter to pay Paul. With Yakupov playing so poorly losing Perron would totally weaken the second line.

Yakupov had a "sophomore slump" as did Huberdeau. Oil could shed Perron, but they don't have enough depth in their system to make up for it.

Sutter isn't really a great 3C so I don't know why EDM'd trade a 55P winger signed to a great deal for him and another LHD prospect(have like 11)/player(Nikitin, Marincin, Ference left side)

bad

I'd have time for either. Don't know where a W in Brouwer'd fit with Eberle-Yak-Purcell right side though

You feel Sutter isn't even a good third centre? You're kidding, right? I'd take Sutter as my third line center in a heartbeat. Just because he doesn't get the same publicity as Crosby et al, the kid is a great asset and can play pretty much any position and in any role (unfortunately since he left Carolina, he's barely had a sniff with respect to offensive opportunities (basically minimal PP minutes but, on the other hand, lot of PK minutes which he's been successful with).

Sutter is a decent skater, great wrist-shot, excellent PK, excellent work ethic (go figure, this coming from a Sutter ), good hands, and all around a versatile asset, team-first player.

In any event, at the least, he's a tweener - somewhere between 2nd line Center and 3 line center. However, he also still has untapped potential (he's only 25), though, and these next few years will determine his ultimate role on the Pens or elsewhere.

I mean yeah, we'd love Perron and Sutter is replaceable, but I don't think Sutter/Dumoulin or Despres is going to get Perron. If Scuderi wasn't such a dumpster fire last season maybe he could have garnered some attention, they need top 4 ready guys, not question marks.
