Of course not! I can live through another season of being lousy if the prize at the end makes the Sabres a true contender for the next decade. That's why I like the moves so far this off season.

I definitely wouldn't consider Pysyk and Ruhwedel to be swift skating puck movers.

Sure Benoit put up points on an offensively stacked 1st place Avalanche team...let's see what he does on the bottom dwelling offensively challenged Bad News Bears (aka B'lo Sabres).

Well, they're both amazing skaters. They both can lug the puck. One of Pysyk's strengths, for sure, is his passing ability which allows you to, ahem, move the puck.

Are either of them Scott Niedermayer? No.

Mezzaros looks like a smart signing in a couple of ways.

Obviously, that fills the roster spot temporarily & buys a youngster some more development time in the AHL... Great, half a season in Rochester could certainly help ease the transition for a Risto or McCabe.

But what's more, is that seemingly there are no disillusioned or punches being pulled with this relationship. It seems clear to me (after hearing TM speak), that this is a clear cut reclamation project. Mezzaroswill use Buffalo to try and springboard his career back into relavence. He understands that he will be shopped to a playoff contender (in a deal which the Sabres will prob eat some of his contract) at the deadline, & I believe he's ok with that.


It's a "Win-Win", all the way around.
