Ed Stein: Cam and Who? Who should play with Cam Fowler on the Ducks top defensive pair.

I think a guy like Nick Grossmann or Braydon Coburn of the Flyers would be a good compliment with Fowler. Coburn is better all around but Grossmann is a solid shot blocking thumper that plays to his strengths well.

LOL how does Phaneuf bring as much baggage if not more than Kane? No one is talking about Phaneuf being a bad apple in the room, he is the Captain lol. I get it his contract has big numbers, but Phaneuf is always in the top of the league and would have gotten that on UFA day anyway if not more...

I tend to agree with Grossman, although his cap hit is brutal. The problem is, with Sami Vatanen now signed to a one-way deal, the Ducks have 9 signed defenseman. Which three, other than Fowler, Lindholm, and Vatanen, do you want for Grossman?

the '94 rangers had two great pairings cut from that cloth, leetch/beukeboom and zubov/lowe.

i'm still amazed how fowler fell in his draft year. fantastic talent.

Agreed, the only baggage for Phaneuf is his contract. However, see my post above. Which 3 do you want back?

Honestly Anahiem isn't the team to deal Phaneuf to unless they are handing out some high draft picks and Smith-pelley....which I doubt. Phaneuf would be a good fit with the Ducks but I'd rather keep him as a Leaf. If he goes anywhere hopefully it's in a blockbuster trade to Tampa for Stamkos, Stamkos MIGHT leave next season as a UFA to go home (toronto), Yzerman could trade him now for a better return..

Stamkos will not be in a deal where Phanuef is the main piece.

Of course. I was being a little sarcastic to Ed who wants to acquire MORE defensemen.

Any player not named fowler, lindholm, or vatenan?

I'm pretty sure teams don't want deadweight players such as lovejoy or Allen especially for an upgrade player like Phanuef.

I don't want more, I want better. Quality over quantity. I think Allen can be dealt for a draft pick and Vatanen is like to be part of the return in a trade for a defenseman.

Oh haha sorry mate gotcha! Yeah sometimes I shake my head at articles here. But I know everyone is spitting on the Stamkos to Toronto deal, but say he really wants to be in Toronto, Tampa can either let him walk for nothing or they can start making phone calls and get a good return. No it wouldn't just be Stamkos for Phaneuf, but it may be something like Phaneuf, Bozak 2017 1st rd, 2018 2nd rd pick. Which for a player who WANTS to leave, is a hell of a return even if it is Stamkos

You make fun of it but maybe he actually wants to play in his hometown, good team or not some people are like that, and his name would echo for eternity(Gladiator yes I said it) if he was part of the group who ended the CUP drought in Toronto, that in itself is a huge appeal to the right people

I don't want to be a Richard but you are getting a little to excited don't you think? The guy hasn't won a cup himself and he is going to end the drought in t.o? Nonis has shown to not be that great at cap management and Tampa already has a brighter future then Toronto and is a nicer place with nicer women and why would someone not want to play under Steve y ? There is more to like about what he has going for him now then if he where to go to Toronto for half the team and a poop ton of money I dnt see it working out like that fairy tale everyone else hopes for

Not that any of this will happen, but a pair with fowler considered phaneuf is way better than buff. Has any one seen buff play D ever?

Fowler and Lovejoy were a great pairing together last season. I say keep them together and keep Beauchemin with Lindholm. It's not a fantastic top four, but as a unit they all played well together last year. Vatanen, Stoner, Allen, and Fistric fight it out for the 3rd pairing. I only make a change if Fowler and Stoner develop good chemistry and make a better tandem than Fowler and Lovejoy.

Ask Martin St.louis who just demanded a trade to Rangers why someone wouldn't want to play under stevie y, or leave the women? There are hot chicks in Toronto to haha and Brendan Shanahan is a big name to play for aswell. Stamkos hasn't won a cup no but their team hasn't been fully stacked in years, if St.louis stuck around then next year could be a good run for them, but Stamkos is the BEST goal scorer in the league period not too mention he is a center which we've wanted for years in Toronto. No guarantees he wins us the cup but there is no one else in the league that would give us a better chance.

Toews stayed in Chicago and he would have a better chance then stammer in my mind. I just don't think the team is built for him and if they did get him wouldn't make a jump forward but stagnate. Can stammer or kessel pass the puck ? Sure but who is the shooter who is the passer and which forwards play a two way game ? If bozak moves in the deal with phaneauf you can't do it unless he literally walks and signs there and he won't just (frank) Steve y over I think its possible on a pipe dream level until he gives more evidense that he would rather leave then stay

I hope Stoner never gets near Fowler. Worst defenseman I've ever watched and his extra stats back that up. As we saw last year, Fowler is capable of playing #1 minutes against top competition but needs the help of a complimentary partner. Lovejoy is suitable, but not totally ideal, because he's a righty and can skate. From within, Vatanen could be alright with Fowler (they played together for portions during the playoffs) but probably couldn't take the workload for 82 games. The only reason why I want Buff is because he would be the cheapest, is a righty, and drives possession like a mad man. His consistency issues on defense would be offset by his insane possession numbers.

Everyone is potentially available at the right price but knowing the sharks need defense as well, it's highly unlikely he is moved at this point right now.
