Randall Ritchey: Sobotka Arbitration, Barbashev, Prosser, Welsh Sign, Butler #25
Vladimir Sobotka was awarded 2.725M for one season during arbitration and will be required to fulfill the contract if he returns to the NHL.
The Blues signed a trio of players, defensemen Nate Prosser, forward Jeremy Welsh, and 2014 second round pick, Ivan Barbashev.
Chris Butler, who signed with the Blues a week ago, will wear #25 this up coming season. |

To bad they had to re-sign Ott instead Sobotka. And Barbashev will be a steal for Blues, he plays much more NA style game than most of russians and he was imo in top 10 forwards of this years draft. |

A little typo there, Sobotka's awarded salary was 2.725 not 2.275. Also because the Blues don't techinally run the Wolves and the Wolves signed an AHL lifer goaltender I think we only get 1 guy on the roster. Kind of sucks, but I think we are stuck with Binnington unless we want him to play in the ECHL which is where Niklas Lundstrom will be. |

Had season ticket's to Wildcats this year and last. Barbashev is a player, he will be very good NHLer IMO |

Doesn't it seem like some sort of oversight in the CBA not to punish guys who jump ship to the KHL to avoid RFA years and then come back with the intention of being unrestricted? If you leave for a different league, your UFA clock should stop until you get back. |

The UFA clock does stop when you are out of the NHL as far as I know. He would have been a UFA in 2015 even if he had stayed with the Blues for the coming season as this would have been his last year as a RFA. |

Good price if Sobotka does indeed return to the Blues. If not, he is not difficult to replace. A fan favorite and one of my personal favorites, I would like to see him return. |

He will pull a Radulov and come back for the playoffs. Serve his "year" and test UFA next summer.
Realize that the blues were not low balling him and hopefully resigne with the blues. |

The only way Armstrong lets him "pull a Radulov" is if we are decimated by injuries or he agrees to sign a new deal. |

Hope you are right. I just dont like this. It feels weird that the blues have a player that doesnt want to play in St. Louis anymore.
I dont think we have the full story yet. |

Yes, he is not just another russian sniper, Barbashev is much more team player...and I love the fact that he and Jaškin are close friends.
Future is bright in St. Louis, not only present |

The Depth D signings probably have as much to do with Gunnarson's injury (still not even scheduled to start skating for weeks) as competition for Cole.

Yes. The Wolves have Matt Climie whose rights are not Blues property. Only way they sign a veteran goalie for the AHL is if they demote Binnington. IMHO, this only happens if Binnington is not doing well and/or Climie is playing unreal and taking all the ice. Binnington has to get regular starts even if that means the ECHL. |

Blues had a damn good draft. |

With sobotka getting an arbitration contract couldn't we trade his rights? It would be nice to have another 2nd round pick in this upcoming draft |

I think we might, but I wouldn't expect it until at the deadline or next summer. |

Blues are rumored to be heavy in on Evander Kane.
I dont believe it but if we were what would it take?

It's coming from Eklund so its pure garbage.
Can't imagine Winnipeg dealing him within the division. Would love to have him, but I don't see it.
It certainly would have to require the Jets taking back Berglund and his new contract for starters. |

From a $ standpoint, you have to add Leopold or Jackman to the mix and both have NMC or limited NTC. Kane is $1.5mm more than Berglund.
Of course, Berglund +Ott+ whatever would make my day, |

Don't ask how I came across this, remember how high the hopes were for Berglund? Now we can't wait to dump him on someone else. |

Yeah. That was the era when Oshie was going to be the second coming of Doug Gilmour off the wing, Perron was a Theo Fleury-type, Cole was going to be Ulf Sammuelsson reincarnate, and Berglund was the next Mats Sundin.
Hell, I'd be happy if Berglund turned into a modern day Joel Otto at this point... |
