And let's not forget they want to make room for phaneuf lol I know Greene is everyone's favorite but I might trade him for Dion with Salvador's and ruutus contracts coming off the books we can likely afford to Greene is set to get 5 million or more on his next contract what do you guys think? I know its an unnecessary move but it makes us a bit more physical I would say they are pretty close talent wise |

so, you would part with greene, probably our best defenseman, for phanuef who the leafs are trying to throw away. and there are no red flags there. |

There are but Dion is the leafs best defenseman and if they eat a bit of salary why not ? He can play big minutes and doesn't need to be captain. I like phaneuf and think Stevens could make him a better player even though he is like 28 or 29 and we get a guy who can hit as hard as volchenkov but can play a lot more minutes I know people won't like it and some might but I did say it would pretty much be a swap neither team would get better per say |

I'd rather keep Greene. I'm not against bringing in a defensman to play with greene, but I doubt it will happen. It would just raise questions as to why we didn't simply resign fayne instead. |

I don't think Phaneuf is worth his contract. We'll see if Greene gets over-paid or not. Phaneuf is more consistent offensively, but playing for the Leafs makes it very hard to tell how good he actually is given how atrocious their defense is.
I'd probably stick with Greene. He's not going to cost 7 mill/year, and he's performed well as a number 1 defenseman, whereas Phaneuf is being half run out of town in the same role, even if the hate isn't justified. Plus, more physical defenseman tend to break down sooner, so there's a greater chance he'll become an albatross, especially towards the end, since his contract goes to 2021. |

I just like phaneuf. Both guys to me are number 2 guys I am not saying we should move Greene but I like what Dion brings and think they are pretty well equal buy dion brings the physicality more and yea might get caught pinching more but I like that swap |

The main issue I see is that there is a whole group of younger D coming up and without Greene what veterans would be there to help "pass the torch" Salvador? Phaneuf would be learning our system himself. I feel Greene is key to helping the younger players develop. If the kids all have breakout years, maybe in the future but this year Greene is too important. |

I'm thinking that Severson probably sticks with the club on opening day and sees action in 2-5 games before being sent down to finish developing in the A. Those few games with the big club will give him and management/coaching an idea as to where exactly Severson is at and what he needs to improve on. It will also improve his confidence which is never a bad thing for an up and comer. Regardless of where Severson plays I'm excited that he is a part of this organization.
Side note, I'm glad to see you have the same D pairings in mind as I do especially the top D pairing. I may be splitting hairs here but who do you think would be more effective playing the left side? I know Merrill played a little bit of both last year (Right with Gelinas/Volchenkov, Left with Zidlicky) but I felt like he was much more effective playing on the left side, his natural side. He seemed like he was much more capable of getting pucks off of the board and putting them on net while on the left than he was on the right. I have no advanced statistics to back this up I just felt like he was better suited at playing the left side, I also feel like Greene would probably be equally as effective on either side.

The off season sucks. They should have a hockey league that plays in the summer to keep us occupied. Rookie camp was cool but I am really getting stir crazy.
I would go hang out at the beach (I am 10 min from Seaside) but the bennies are all over it with their stupid haircuts and spray tans. 'Come at me bro'. The cup was down there the other day and I missed it.

hate on the Bennys (the correct spelling : ) ) all you want, but it's these wonderful people that bring in tons of moneys to our beaches. With that said, September/October is the best time for beach going. so nice and relaxing.

real excited about severson, but i just dont see him up with the big team unless someone goes down
but he will be the first call up
the only other way i can see him playing is if gelinas is struggling defensively and they want to see severson
but its going to be interesting in a couple seasons with santini and possibly jacobs seeking a spot, zid will be gone next year so i think the D next year might be
greene-merrill
larrson-gelinas
severson-?? |

Yes the end of the season is the best.
The bennys are the worst, I was forced to over hear a 20 minute conversation the other day that some idiot was having in the booth behind me, as he was shouting into his phone on speaker while eating, about how many reps of how much weight during what exercise he did or wants to do. 20 minutes of 225 for 20, 260 for 15, what 325 for 8 reps bro that's cray cray - blah, blah, blah. All loud on purpose as if people around would be like, "what you benched 275 for 15 reps you are so (frank)ing cool!" I wanted to stab out my ear drums with a spork. The carrot faced meatheads and their dirty girlfriends with seven pounds of makeup on can keep their dollars in north jersey. The normal people that would go to the beach if those freaks weren't there would be much better company. |
