ROR is one greedy bastard, eh?

Seems like the kind of guy who'll holdout for every penny he can get. Mercenary.

Not that I can blame him.

You've probably seen more of him than I have. Can he be a 1C, or is he an exceptional 2C? I know he played on the wing last season, but I imagine he prefers centre.

I don't view him as a 1LC, more of a solid 2LC. I think most Avs fans say the same. His point production does get boosted playing with Duchene.

I think he prefers playing on Duchene's wing. That'll boost his numbers and get him paid more.

IMO he would fit better as a 2C on a line that plays vs the opponents top line. Similar to Patrice Bergeron, great two-way player but not a huge offensive upside.

#1w or #2c would be best fits. Granted with offensive wingers he could be #1c just fine.

1) In my mind I can see RoR holding up Barrie as the Avs only have so much Cap space and they will need to know what RoR will be getting so they know what they have left to work with. If anything Sherman is very good with the Cap so I think the Avs should be fine.

2) I am sure the Avs also already have somewhat of an idea on what they could get in return for RoR as I am sure they called around on it a bit during the season.

Exceptional 2C. Plays both ends of the ice. Can play wing on first line. Kind of player you need in the playoffs. They had Landeskog that does the job though for less money. They might have to consider trading him for an really good D eventually. For now they should keep him unless they get a deal they cannot refuse.

Someone help me out, I just don't get how the Avs have not been able to resign(long term) at least one of either Stasny or RoR?....For Avs fans it sucks to see that talent not being retained.

Who does O'Reilly think he is Mark Messier? He was a lower minus then all his line mates.

Because they want more money then their worth.

They have Landeskog and Duchene locked up long term, and I would take the duo over ROR and Stastny. Nathan is going to get paid in the next two years as well.

ROR can't go anywhere, he can't sign an offer sheet. We will either sign him long term or trade him for talent.

In hindsight, the Avs should have traded Stastny at the deadline.

Agree with all of this except for trading Statsny at the deadline. The Avs needed him in the playoffs and they won the division - had to ride that one out. If they are a non playoff team or even a bubble team, then Statsny gets traded.

Avs brass should just flip him for a young RW that can grow with Dutch. I'm tired of the soap opera...

The Avs have so many good offensive players it becomes a Cap issue, so you have to choose which players are going to get the paydays as bad cap mgmt could force the Avs to have to trade a player they wouldnt want to.

Stastny wasnt worth 7 that he got from STL and RoR isnt worth what he is asking. Players with Great talent on bad contracts more often hurt a teams cup chances more than help.

There was no way the Avs would have known that they would have gotten hit so bad with injuries in the PO and that STastny would leave for big bucks. It was a big risk and it didnt work out but I would have done the same thing at the time.

Bang on! There is no rush to trade ROR. When the time is right they should move him for a top D

Can't keep Stastny at $7 mil when you have Duchene, Landeskog and superstar in the making MacKinnon. They need to manage their money and it is better spent on a D. That being said, I think that ROR is a very very good player.

I'm more eager to trade ROR for a legit RW that Duchene can play with. He hasn't had a true top line winger to work with his whole career. (I don't count the season with ROR, cause ROR is technically a center)

It really didn't hurt losing Stastny knowing we could never give him 7m and hope to sign nate to a reasonable contract too. Moral of the story, Mackinnon>Stastny.

I agree with Stastny but you don't think RoR is worth somewhere around $6Mil(don't remember what it was reported he's asking).....similar to what Duchane is making as they have essentially the same points.

The thing I do like about RoR though(and is a gamble by the Avs)is that he's shown consistent improvement every season(points wise).....so I guess what I'm saying is that while it might seem he's asking a lot now, if he continues this upward trend, in another season or two that price tag will look pretty good.
