James,

I would agree with your President Trophy comments except for this: “The Bruins, though they didn't win the Cup, can mathematically speaking, be considered a superior team to both the Rangers and Kings, who played in the Final.” This would be correct if the season was a true round-robin; the competition is not “perfectly” even. I won’t go into the whole “East vs West” deal but only say that since they don’t play the same teams with the same frequency you are not using same measuring stick to determine “best” or “superior” just most points given different competition.

Not saying I agree with it or not the League has purposely structured the regular season NOT to be equal but to capitalize on entertainment value of divisional rivalries.

So, mathematically speaking, I am not sure we can come to that conclusion.

Its fair to say that the Bruins play an easier schedule than teams in the West, but I would be willing to say that the West's superiority is slightly overblown.

You have a point, but I don't think it really changes the basic essence of what I was saying.

I agree with your assessment of Kadri, Gardiner and Reilly. The hard part is convincing others to be patient with young players, when they've been starved of success for so long.

I agree it's a huge grind and teams don't nearly get the props of winning it.

Ducks > Bruins and everyone else 82-game regular season

Kings (without 2 of their defensemen) > Ducks post season

Put that into your calculator.

Stars were already better than the coyotes. Now they added a 2c and a 2w and the coyotes did nothing. Somehow that equals dallas not making the playoffs and the coyotes in first place.

To be fair, it apparently doesn't require much (if any) intimate knowledge of the sport to be a hockey writer in the traditional media. poop, you don't even have to be a fan.

Domi winning the Calder is hard considering the lack of fire power Arizona (felt weird typing that) has up front. Also has good competition this year (Drouin, Gibson, etc)

Also, don't see Boedecker scoring 40. Very very few players top that yearly.

Bods wont score 40. but he has improved every year and at the end of last year you can see he had made it to that next level. He has confidence in his shot selection. in past seasons he probably passed way to much. now hes taking the puck to then net.

Domi...i really think he is underestimated. The coyotes have not had a good rookie forward since Peter Mueller. ive gone to a lot of phx prospects and training camps over the years and this last prospect camp Domi lit it up. it wasnt even a question of who the most skilled guy on the ice was. I was at last years camp and he was good. but this year he was even better.

i would think you have to put him a top 6 role with Gagner. if Tip actually will give him decent ice time hes going to perform. I wouldnt scream that hes a lock for the calder but if hes played in a top 6 and stays healthy he will def be in the conversation.

Samuelsson was also a stand out in camp. But it might take a year in the AHL. if they are going to stick him in a 4l role at 6 min a game....id rather see him getting 20min a game in the AHL.

surprising standouts were Anton Karlsson and Tyler Gaudet. Karlsson is hard on the puck really mature forechecker who won countless puck battles. Gaudet i see Tip really liking him. He plays that simple game tip likes. so he would be solid 3l

Boedker gets 40?

My favorite part about hockey has to be that all your new players will be awesome and no incumbents have a chance to improve, which is the logic of basically all commentators and 90% of fans.
