At what age can you no longer offer a two way deal where the player doesn't have to go thru waivers? I assume Connolly can go down without going thru waivers, he would be scooped up fast if he did have to go thru waivers.

He is not waiver exempt. Would have to clear if they want him in the AHL.

How is that possible on a two deal? I understand if on a one way deal. No more re-entry waivers understand all of that. But how can Connolly get a two deal and still not be exempt from waivers?

If he doesn't make the team out of preseason he still has to clear waivers then for him to go down to Syracuse then so basically this is a one-way as I don't see them sneaking him thru the waivers he has too much potential. Unless their is a unwritten rule about these things like signing offer sheets to RFAs.

One-way, two-way designation relates to salary received in each league. The waiver system is based on level of experience. This explains it:

Two-way is only about money, one-way ensures NHL play even in the AHL. Nothing to do with waivers.

Sustr signed a 1yr 1 way but he is waiver exempt to go down to Syracuse before the 16th game of the season I believe but if they send him down he still gets his NHL salary... this poop is confusing.

so, if i get this right:
Out of camp: connolly has to make the team or he goes straight to the crunch w/o waivers
During season: connolly gets called up & cannot be sent back without going through waivers
If he makes it : he has to stay unless we put him on waivers

so the only way he avoids waivers is if he does not make the team right out of camp??? and then if he gets called up, he can't go back without going through waivers?

IMO, Connolly's waiver eligibility makes him a lock for Tampa, a la Barberio last season. Ready or not.

Saw this on twitter, makes me happy, im excited to see what he can bring

Is this true, if he doesn't make the team after preseason he can go to Syracuse without waivers?

All two-way means is he makes a different amount of money in the NHL and AHL. Waivers are determined based on games played; not sure of the amount.

EDIT: At his age, 22, and since it has been 3 years since signing his first contract, he would go through waivers as his cut off is 80 games. He has played in 84 games. So, he will most likely start up with you guys. If he gets sent down, he will go through waivers.

Kinda surprised he accepted a two way after last season, but glad to have him in the fold.

Michael Stuart: Lightning Re-Sign Brett Connolly to One-Year, Two-Way Deal
- Michael_Stuart

Someone on this website should really take the time to write a blog to explain one/two way deals and waiver exemption.

I got flammed on twitter for saying Tokarski would have to clear waivers this year to go to Hamilton despite having a 2 way contract.
