Even though the contracts for Nisk and Orpik were insane, one cant really argue that the Caps improved their backline.
Orpik prob has another good 2 years or so in him of above-average play. Beyond that, all bets are off.
Nisk is the wildcard. If he can replicate his last season with the Pens, while playing against better opposition since he's now a #2/3, the Caps should be pretty good next year.

Orpik's real value right now should've not been higher than $3M/per. Great character and good skating though. |
