There's certainly some validity to it. Heatley's got that Ottawa connect that Chiarelli loves, and he can seemingly be had for a modest price. Biggest issue though is that he's a lefty shot. But if they just want somebody that they can plug it anywhere with little pressure, he's certainly a fit. Liked his playoffs, to be honest.

I also think that Heatley could have another opportunity elsewhere with the Flyers or maybe even the Islanders.

I really wish they could get Bobby Ryan. But I think Heatley has a little left in the tank and Something to prove. I think they're should be a little more faith in Eriksson too.

Great Blog Ty!
I think Peter Mueller has huge upside still. Not just in name. I've been high on him for a long time and hes got his feet back. Deserve a second look in the NHL.

I think the B's should avoid any big contracts this year.

IMO I just don't think mueller fits into the bruins line up. He couldn't keep a job on the panthers, how in the hell is he going to make the bruins!

Just my thoughts anyway.

I'd be ok with him if he comes on the cheap, Heater as well.... But I think the B's are going to have to go throught the trade route... if anythign at all

Mueller would be a big pick up, best part of his game was his shot. He has a cannon setting up on the PP for the one timer.

Big fan of his, he was amazing pre concussions with the Avs. He finally was starting to come around again afterward, but Avs didnt extend him. If hes healthy, as it sounds like he is, he could be a great fit with Yeti

The B's have entered, for better or worse, that "bridge year" where, given Chia's lack of aggressiveness to trade away a contract or two on the first day of free agency, the B's will probably be an upper middle of the pack team this season.

He could be crossing his fingers that Soderberg, Smith and Eriksson have remarkable seasons and, if in position by the mid season trade deadline and the continued improvement of the young D, flips Boychuk for a top 6 forward.

Bergeron has lost a step along with Chara, Lucic and Krejci will return to their floating ways and Kelly, along with Eriksson who seems to tempt fate by keeping his eyes down between the blue lines, are high injury risks.

Hopefully either Spooner or Khokhlachev are ready for the NHL.

What's the B's cap situation like? Can Cap Geek be trusted? under 2M to sign both Krug and Smith?

Which of those albatross contracts exactly were you hoping he'd make room for?

A body or 2 will be moved. Either pick up a wing like Mueller, Setoguchi, Heater on the cheap or try to flip a D-man for one. B's will still have a top 2 roster in the East. It helps that the conference is weak, but losing Iggy isn't the end of the world, need a kid to step up eventually anyways.

I don't get why some people think this team will be significantly worse because they lost iginla, when they will be adding Seidenberg and could drastically improve their bottom 6 with internal talent. If Smith, Erikkson and Soderberg along with the call-ups can pot a couple extra goals each the team will be fine. Its always been a score by committee team, why would that change now? Worst case Ontario, B's head into the deadline safely in the playoffs, maybe 2/3 in the division and make a play at a scorer if needed. They still have the undisputed best team D in the east. They can survive scoring a few less goals and not getting the pres trophy

Little overkill guys?

Yes Bergeron is a great player, yes, he won the Selke, all I'm trying to say his speed isn't what it used to be and he can't be the guy to carry the offense. No need for the stat posting.

Regarding the contracts, I didn't say it would be easy. I still believe Eriksson although talented, could become a real albatross with the next hit to the head. Kelly has been another injury problem the past two seasons. Personally, Marchand may have brought something back. Nice player but costly decision maker.

Been a fan since 74...I like to wave the pom poms as much as the next fan but this team was knocked out in the second round in ugly fashion. Habs skated circles around them and for that to change some players are going to have to step well beyond the previous years stats.
