Lightning had a good week, I would say. Probably a top 4 in the East for sure.

Great blog Michael, and very successful day for this team. I have 100% faith in Yzerman, but do you think they'll bring anybody in to protect the stars? I know Boyle is huge and I love that signing, but he's one of the worst fighters in the league and rarely drops them anyways.

The days of the enforcer are long gone, I think.

The team has a number of guys who are willing to drop the gloves when needed. This team is potent enough that teams won't want to take stupid penalties.

I hope you're right, but bishop must have gotten run over 10 times last year and nobody ever did a thing about it. And that was before we shipped out Malone and Crombeen. Another move I agreed with, I just hope we get somebody that can stick up for our guys. We got pushed around and taken advantage of all season last year.

agreed. we need to clear the net until the whistle goes. play to the whistle, if someones hacking at your goalie, give him a talkin to and if he doesnt stop give him a shot. as long as its before the whistle i think you're fine

I think the best day by all teams today tampa really did not break the bank badly and filled 3 big needs! Brian boyle for 2 million per year nabokov for 1 year 1.550 million and stralman for 4.5 million per year. stralman pretty much replaces the teddy purcell contract lol. Yzerman pulled off some great moves today!

Never a fan of boyle but if he plays like he did in the playoffs, nothing really to complain about.

Do you see anything else happening or do you think we are done?

As long as all the young forwards continue to take the next step in their development this team can compete well into the playoffs with our new blue line and Bishop. Steven Stamkos will score plenty of goals. If Palat, Johnson, Killorn, Filppula and possibly Callahan can again get to or over the 20 goal markers for secondary scoring then they can be dangerous for sure. Panik and Brown are not scorers and just need to continue to imrove. The only problem I potentially see with the forwards is what happens if Kucherov, Drouin or Connolly go thru some growing pains how do they handle that type of situation.

a redwings fan said this! And there goes our hopes that they will trade for someone right down the drain. Queue up the "we like our guys" press conference tomorrow. 9 million dollars in cap space and they aren't going to spend it on anything (what can they spend it on at this point?). This must be how Sens fans feel.

Between Yzerman and Nill they're kind of being out GM'd by their own Protégés.

the boyle thing is a question for me we gave him 2 million per season ? when we had thompson for 1.6 ? why dump thompson ? after getting rid of purcell and crombeen we had the money for stralman and nabokov ? but I still like boyle but is he a big upgrade over nate thompson ?

Why would you pay a 4th line guy 2.3 million? I would have kept Thompson's intangibles at 1.6. Other needed to add draft picks. This is a head scratcher.

I tend to agree, but I look at Thompson as a sunk cost at this point.

boyle can stand infront of the net on the PP and hes a solid PK and faceoff guy and hes huge compared to thompson. for the extra 400k ill take the 4th and 7th rounders. plus boyle will chip in more points than thompson did.

id say the bottom 6 will look something like

connolly johnson kucherov
brown boyle pacquette

that 4th line will piss the hell out of a lot of teams. really hard working. along with 3 scoring lines. the depth on the blueline is just great now. and bishop will have a vet behind him who can come in and play 25-30 games and take some of the load off him. he played too many games last season. i think a 55-27 split seems about right.

Well in the end of the day we have traded Purcell, Bought out Malone and dropped Lindy Aulie All good. Traded The punching bag. Then we add two solid D men, a reliable backup and a big 4th liner. Draft one first rounder and two second rounders plus numerous other picks and left some room for Connolly and Drouin. I think it was everything I could have hoped for and seeing all the posts from everyone I think we checked off every box for changes to be made. greatJob Stevie Y.

While I'm not a huge fan of getting rid of Thompson and bringing in Boyle, I see why it was done. Boyle plays a similiar game to Nate, but stronger then Crombeen. I like Stralman, the picks and Nabokov will do good with 20-25 games. All and all I give Yzerman a B+!

Looking like we can start rolling 4 formidable lines, ala Boston. I give SFY good marks for the moves he has made over the past few weeks. Our new d-corps is looking pretty good (on paper anyways).

Let's see how it goes.

Also, it will be interesting to watch the New York Lightning (but I guess you could make a smaller argument for the TB Rangers?)

I liked Nate too both good Defensive players but Boyle slightly better at face offs and PK. It was a move that really didn't have to be made but slight edge to Boyle.

Are you looking to get banned for life. Lol we have three of their players they have two of ours plus an older one in Boyle. They have Marty, Kostka and Boyle we have Cally, Stralman and Boyle. Big deal on a couple changes we are the Tampa Bay Lightning period.

I give him an A+. Moved the deadwood except for Nate and added what we needed especially when the lower cap caught a lot of people by surprise.
