The hooplah people all over the league had when the Penguins had three players locked up for around 25 mil... now two for 24 mil.

And next year after this... if another big cap increase occurs (which its supposed to), are we gonna see a player net a 15 mil deal?

My sympathies to all those fans who love to fiddle around with capgeek

In the last thread someone pointed out the advantage of having Spezza for just one year while TT gets some experience on the Rock, then when the two big contracts of 88 and 19 kick in we can plug TT into the 2C. Sounds reasonable to me.

That's just posturing. Kane and Toews will get a little higher than Getzlaf and Perry (at most).

$8.5M-9.5M a year

Biggest caphits in the NHL (OV 9.54, Malkin 9.5, Crosby 8.7, Perry 8.625)

JJ, as usual nice work. It's always exciting to think about the idea of acquiring a shiny name but reality says it's hard to accomplish. Excited to see what unfolds.. if anything..

Stan Bowman on conference call: I'm not going to get into the specifics of ongoing negotiations of our players.

Bowman won't bite on the Sharp question: "I’ve never commented on rumors and I’m not going to start today. I don’t think it helps anybody."

JJ....you had Lecavelier has a UFA but he still has 4 more years at $4.5 million left on his current deal with Philly.

There are other options to centre the 2nd line, some better than others. Frans Nielsen is sill a top choice, there's also Legwand, Jokinen, Grabovski and Santorelli. Stan may go this route if Kane and Toews get their $12 million and/or if he wants to improve the depth by acquiring multiple centres.

He signed a 5 yr 22 mil dollar deal with Philly last summer, not an UFA although I am sure they would be happy for you to take him off their hands.

Disagree. I think Kane and Toews become the two highest paid players in the NHL. The market is set up that way right now. Kane and Toews are in the drivers seat to set the bar for the next generation of contracts.

The NHL radio network just reported that Vinny's agent has been given permission to speak to other clubs about a trade.

Perry and Getzlaf's deals are like a year old. Those are the comparables, that's what they're going to get, probably with a slight bump.

Bowman: "Had a lot of discussions on those possibilities (trading for picks). Will it happen tomorrow? Not sure."
