Engels, serious question: if Markov is such a great leader, why was he passed up for the captaincy in favour of a dude who had just arrived a year prior.

did he decline it? was it offered to him?

Lots of rumors that PK wasn't impressed with the Markov signing. Wants to take more of a leadership role him....make it his team.

Considering his already bad relationship with the coach, I wonder if this will play into him signing an offer sheet.

does that make him a bad one?
there are things that go along with the captaincy that might not be for him. I don't think he craves the spotlight, but behind closed doors, this story of today is supposed to give a bit of insight into his willingness to be captain-like

edit: I'm really more curious about how the habs end up with Brian Gionta as captain really.

agree on Callahan. that deal isn't terrible. sometimes the teeth gnashing over cap hits is too much. OMG that guy is overpaid by 750k!! who gives a poop? what's better, a good player who is overpaid or a mediocre player who makes league average? term in this day and age is becoming more important than salary. just look at the reaction to Markov. that's a bargain salary considering what Phaneuf gets, what Niskanen WILL get, etc. but it's the third year that has everyone uneasy.

not convinced about Budaj. not with Price's last 3 seasons ending in injury.

bingo. in Montreal, being the captain, more than anything, is a PR position. you're the spokesman and you have to talk, a lot, every day. Markov is a terrible fit for that.

EE, you really think MB wants to trade up at the draft?
Me think he should trade down to get 2 2nd round picks for his late first. What's your take?
