Not sure why he couldn't put it together here. I was pumped when he made the jump, one of our best prospects at the time. Hopefully Loui can put together a healthy season and return to form. Also, give us Krejci

Hey guys, new here. Ty, I've been thinking about something since Montreal bounced us - would it be a terrible thing to let Iginla sign elsewhere? I know it's not easy replacing 30 goals and the tough game he brings, but a few things bugged me towards the end there.
There was a lot of talk about Iggy's leadership, but it didn't seem to impact the jackass antics of Lucic & Marchand in the postseason. Whether or not he took them aside, his leadership seemed to little impact. I also saw where some people questioned the urgency of his play, and from what I saw I tend to agree. Looking for a Cup on a team many said was unbeatable, the desperation wasn't there in crunch time.
Given the looming cap crunch, maybe it's best to move on rather than pay Iginla another $6 million total or thereabouts. I think Krug & Smith are far more important, since.they're the future. I'm sure moves will be made, but I would start there.

What's Thornton making? You mentioned a little while ago he could be on the outs. If he or others are going to be replaced by an up and comer that could also provide a little more needed room?

3 years for $9M seems fair to give to Smith. He took a step forward this year and became a pretty reliable player within the top 6. I'd like to see him get $2.5-2.75M but wouldn't complain if he got $3M a year.

Thornton made $1.1 million this year. It looks like Chiarelli is moving on from Thorty, looking to replace him with a younger, quicker, more skilled player.like Fraser, Florek, etc. His game has slowed a step and the.current style of NHL hockey has passed.him by. I don't think the Orpik incident helped his cause either. We need more speed & skill mixed in. Lucic, Chara, and Miller provide plenty of toughness.

Being from Winnipeg, if we really do have to trade evander Kane.. I wouldn't mind sending him to Boston for Marchand, smith and maybe bartkowski... Not sure if the bruins would go for it though... The bruins would gain a quality player in Kane, and they'd free up cap space for iginla...

Take out Smith and plug in a prospect or pick and something could be worked out.

What if the B's let Smith try to win the 1st line spot? Use the iginla money to sign a faster, cheaper 3rd line scorer(I like Kulemin). If Smith doesn't work out on the 1st they could probably swing a trade at the deadline for a gaborik type. That would relieve some of these cap headaches

move marchand for some high end prospects, free up his money
let some kids battle it out for open spots
spooner being able to play wing would make this much much easier

at this point it seems to be up to him if he wants to be back
if he does a 1 year deal with bonuses again, they have said they want him
if he wants 2 or 3 years..it's not happening

how they all looked like a rookie team throughout the habs series was troubling
the "experience" didn't help them out this time

the Bruins will have just under $8.7 million dollars of summertime cap space to fill three forward spots and sign a backup goaltender. Easy math tells you that a $3 million cap-hit for Smith leaves you with $4.7 million to re-sign Krug, Iginla, and bring in a backup goalie.

Apparently your math is different from my math. $8.7 million minus $3 million would leave $5.7 million in my world, or maybe math isn't as easy for you as you first thought.

I've definitely bounced this idea around a bit in my head, and here's what I come back to with letting Iggy go-- I'm not crazy about it because I don't think you're going to find a better option at his expected price (PC said when they signed him that the plan is to sign him at a lower cap-hit when the one-year deal ended a la Recchi) and I don't think a guy like Khokhlachev is ready for that role just yet. Plus, it'd really suck if this guy plays here for one year, wreaks like $4M in cap havoc the next year, and then bounces.
