I could maybe live with Neil screening on the plowerplay if he was stripped of an equivalent of even-strength icetime. |

Travis Yost: End the Chris Neil Power-Play Experiment - Travis Yost
"It's paul macs job to uh, not tap him"
Lol that was hilarious
Definately agree..it seems stache has put him on the pp when our guys werent producing..or just pissed at them for some reason (mainly this point)
I'm curious as to why mac has never tried using 4 forwards and 1 defender on the pp? Always thought it was a good tactic..or any coach for that matter..

He actually did this quite a bit this past season. Putting the Turris line out with Spezza and karlsson |

This.
Apparently moving part of the "old" leadership that has some value to the team currently (Spezza) is priority over moving the "old" leadership who have zero value (Neil and Phillips). I don't care if you'd get squat for them time to move on. Maybe don't sign them to 2 year deals either... |

Both deserve a lot of respect for what they have done for the Sens and the city of Ottawa. From a hockey stand point, it's just foolish to keep them on going forward. Maybe they will both bounce back, but that's more wishful thinking than hoping Cowen bounces back.
To me it's backward to move on from Alfie and Spezza but hang on for dear life to Neil and Phillips.
Phillips number will most likely be retired and I will be there to give him a standing O. Neil will always be a fan favourite. But their time isn't now. |

I disagree, I think Neil can still offer something to this club. A physical and competitive edge is hard to find in today's league. That being said his minutes should be cut immensely. Someone like Greening on the other hand, has to go or be bought out. Phillips can be a 7th defender until traded or retired. |

I agree, Neil adds toughness to this team and he stands up for the other guys.
Even though he sucks, he's had games where he brought energy to the team
Don't think we can say the same about greening.

The issue is that Neil's role should be like Kassian's role was this year, but he's being paid 2 million dollars because he basically has tenure with the team.
That role should cost you 600-700k, not 2+ million per year.
Neil hasn't been able to provide offense for a few years now, this isn't 2008 anymore. His time is past, time to trade him to another team that has an inflated sense of his value. |

Or even a team with a fairly accurate sense of his role as a limited-minute, 4th line, "character" guy and agitator.
They can have him for a bag of pucks, and a lot of teams would take him for that who aren't faced with a budget crunch. |

He did. 14 for Neil, 11 for Clarkson.
The more comical statistic regarding Clarkson is that his number of games missed due to suspension (12) outnumbers his point total (11) for the season.

Agreed. He has value, but it only shows in 5-10 games now. He's not a guy you can roll in your top 9. The Sens are treating him like they did 5-6 years ago. He isn't what he used to be. I don't think anyone can argue that. |

I don't think many teams will be trading for an older guy who can fight every now and then that gets paid close to 2 million for 2 more years. Most teams can call a guy like that up from their farm team. |

No one in their right mind would think Neil is capable of being in the top 9; however, if a team isn't physical, come playoffs they will be butchered. The bottom line is that in the NHL the team with the physical edge wins it all. One very familiar example was the Sens cup run during the 06-07 year. That team could hit; that's how they reached the finals (unfortunately they got the taste of their own medicine against the Mighty Ducks). |

1. Neil making 2mil isn't a problem IMO; someone like Greening is making more and producing in a hockey stand point waaay less.
2. I would love to see an NHL team bring up a guy who can take down giants like Chara, and at the same time have the ability to get the team motivated and pumped up. IMO some guy from the AHL acting like a hero will be made of fun of by his NHL teammates.
