So, Schenn with wingers is pretty good, huh?

Okay Hexy, do your stuff.

Matt Read is one of Schenn's wingers in Minsk, although they haven't been on the same line all that frequently in Philly.

Side note: It is funny how every coach who has Read instantly takes to him. At last year's Worlds, Lindy Ruff started Read out as a barely used fourth line player and his role and ice time quickly expanded dramatically. This year, Tippett is using Read on the top PK unit and as a shutdown forward at 5-on-5.

I'd like to see Mat Read in a different role for the Flyers. He has speed and skill, and could put up more points playing on a top scoring line. It's lot easier to acquire a checking line winger then it is a scoring line winger

It doesn't hurt when the third guy is Huberdeau, either, but maybe Berube is taking notes here. We all know Read is versatile, but his time was mostly spent on Couturier's wing this year at even strength. I wouldn't have complained if he had seen a little more scoring line time, even if it was spotty.

Yeah, playing with dried liver like Wayne Simmonds is holding him back

Hartnell is obviously holding both Giroux and Schenn down at the same time.

Ha!

Come on, be fair -- sometimes, you need two guys to complement you. Look at it this way: Maybe another winger helps Simmonds become a 35-goal, 70-point, 100 PIM player!

I'd rather have my girlfriend do that, but hey I'll take what I can get.

Yeah, I was obviously knocking Simmonds.

Whether it was Vinnie on the wing or Schenn, that line was less than spectacular. I'd rather see Schenn centering two quality wingers. Would Read and Simmonds be that pair? I'd give it a shot, at least, if they don't bring in a FA LW, or Akeson if he comes into camp and shows he can swing it.

Read would certainly give a better mix of players, and add some speed to that line. Although I'd like to see Read with Giroux also.

To be fair, Simmonds isn't the greatest 5v5 player. He's good, but he was 5th on the team in ES goals (First overall in goals).

Read just seems to be a set it/forget it kind of guy -- very even game-to-game performer, and he can literally do everything well.

Finding him (and keeping him signed to a manageable amount) will definitely go down as one of the more outstanding moves of Homer's tenure.

Works for me!

I'd be fine with:
Hartnell-G-Voracek
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
UFA TBD-Couturier-Akeson
Raffl-Laughton-Rinaldo

I think Read would play well on any line, but I think Giroux and Voracek need a more physical presence on the other wing.

I could roll with that, as well. If you wanted to bring Hall back and Raffl (hopefully) develops enough to contribute on the third line, then that would be OK, too -- I realize Hall is older and starting to slow down, and 5v5 he wasn't exactly killing it.

But I do believe he is a valuable PKer, and while a player like him can be replaced, if there is room on the roster, I wouldn't mind if he had a slot.

Hall's ok, but I would like to upgrade that spot. Perhaps a guy like Vern Fiddler?
And then you can move Raffl up to the 3rd line.

Simmonds isn't exactly a play maker. But then, I'm not sure Schenn is either.

Absolutely -- if we can upgrade, absolutely. While I've watched him play shifts here and there, I just haven't seen Fidder play enough minutes overall for me to develop an opinion of him, but if he's an upgrade, absolutely.

With the right linemates, I think Schenn would surprise people with his ability. This guy was a top 5 pick. He has the natural skill and we see glimpses of it from time to time.

I agree with this. Schenn makes quick little plays. He doesn't carry the puck like Giroux and Voracek can, like Couturier can. But I do believe he sees the ice well, knows where to go, and makes these sneaky little plays to get open, or find open guys.

Schenn's a sneaky player. I think there's reasons why he kills it with guys like Voracek and Hartnell. If he plays with a winger who carries the puck...he's just a sneaky player who can really hurt teams.

His possession numbers are strong without VL on his line. Its like night and day. I just want to see him with quality linemates for an entire season. His face-off % will get better if they let him stay at center all season. He came into this past season expecting to play wing then they had him at center after 10 games.
