What would be the asking price for Spezza from St. Louis?

Yeah, they really could use one more underachiever.

Perfect fit!

Might as well shoot for the stars...

Spezza for StL 1st this year, Shattenkirk, and Rattie.

Honestly, if some combination of Anaheim/San Jose/Colorado end up flaming out, it might start a bidding war, and then all of a sudden that trade proposal up there doesn't sound too bad....

not sure how spezza is considered an underachiever. how many PPG centers are there in the league right now? spezza definitely had a down year, won't deny that, but over the course of his career, spezza has been anything BUT an underachiever.

considering your teams anemic offense, you should be begging for a player like spezza.

didn't they trade their 1st for miller?

either way, i'd do that deal in a second even without the 1st. hell, i'd even throw in a guy like prince along with spezza, if it got the deal done.

Schwartz and shattenkirk. I'll throw in something if I have to but Schwartz should be the target. Sens are overloaded with right hand shots up front need more lefties. Rattie would be good but Schwartz is awesome and a lefty.

I think it would be a mistake for St.Louis to do anything too drastic this offseason. They are not far off. They just got kind of a tough hand dealt to them in round 1, as the Hawks look poised to win it all again. If anything, trading for Miller proved that the Blues don't need to look out of the organization for help. Keep your assets.

With that said, if they want Spezza and are willing to pony up, then by all means. You would have to think a guy like Schwartz would be on Murray's radar. I can't see St.Louis moving one of their d-men. I know Murray quotes like TJ Oshie as well, but that seems like a tough grab.

Spezza should not be moved. If he is moved, it has to be a great deal that helps this team now. Getting picks and prospects for the 2nd best player this organization has had would set us back, again.

I would say Shattenkirk would be worth it, alone, but then I checked the breakdown of his TOI and it seems as though he doesn't PK.

We need a steady Dman (I don't even care about offensive numbers) to insulate our crappy D - a steady Dman that can PK.

He did play more on the PK in past years, so maybe it's just a case of them having too many good Dmen. Who knows.

Ideally, Ottawa needs a guy to play with Methot, so Karlsson can slide down to the 3-4 hole.

Instead of trying to 'make' Karlsson a responsible shut down guy as well as offensive machine, we need to let him loose.

If you look at all the offensive greats in the past few decades, they have all played in the 3-4 pairing. Everyone loves to talk about Scott Neidermayer and compare him to Karlsson, but he was never tasked with playing in the 1-2 pair. He was in the 3-4 for the majority of his career. When you're playing 2nd/3rd lines more than 1st lines, you are naturally going to be on the ice when your team is on offense more.

my disclaimer will be assumed with any Spezza trade talk, but just 'cause I like playing along.....

I remain convinced that any return will be less than expected, so

To STL : Spezza
to OTT : Bowmeester, the rights to Ott and 2014 1st

I can't see STL keeping Bowmeester over Shattenkirk

That's fine with me. I have been a Bowmeester hater since forever, cause I think he's overrated offensively and isn't worth that contract. Thing is, we need guys who can play in their own end, right now. He is probably worth more to a team like Ottawa than Shattenkirk.

No way in hell Melnyk will pay him though.

do you watch games in some sort of Bizzaro World alternate universe?

your going to take one of the top 5 d-men in the league and put him on the 2nd pairing.....

and who in your world was the 1-2 pairing when Neidermayer was playing???

I fail to see how Spezza helps the Blues get to where they want to go.

Bring up his stats all you want, I've never been impressed with that guy in the playoffs at all.

$5.4M in actual salary on a $6.68M cap hit ..... actual slary dollars are only $1.2M higher than Shattenkirk

This would be one of those deals where it would be silly to move Spezza. Boumeester isn't going to be signing a team friendly contract. One of the main reasons people want Spezza traded is because of his contract. Adding Boumeester just replaces that with a player of lesser value to the team.
