Lou should be negotiating with this guy got to get him resigned and out of the way. He will likely go all the way to free agency and resign with us or somebody in the final few days before the season. Probably a smart move by him, he likes playing for the Devils but he also likes playing in the playoffs. He will likely wait to see what moves Lou makes ( Schneider, Scoring needs, dropping dead weight ect.) before making any decisions. It would be terrible if he got injured over there and forced him to retire. I get he loves the game and loves to play but if that if that is the case and he wants to play a few more years he should consider cutting down on these events.

Todd you are probably saving this till we are closer to the draft but who do you like at 30 now that you have seen a full season and deep into the playoffs of these kids?

Brendan Lemieux, Anton Karlsson, Nikolai Goldobin, and Robby Fabbri are a few guys I like. All of them should go between mid 20's to 30, though Fabbri seems to be rising.

Jaromir Jagr had an exceptional season. Wonder if he can give it a Gordie Howe try for oldest player ever?

If Demko is on the board at 30, would you take him?

I've seen mocks where the Devils take Bleackley. I do like the scouting report on Karlsson and Fabbri though.

With the physicality, speed and how much more balanced the talent level is today, I don't think it'd be possible for anyone to come close to Howe's record. Jagr is pretty slow now, imagine adding another decade of wear and tear and natural aging to that. He has the strength, size, and instincts to withstand the impact of the game and be productive for a few more years, but if he's playing in the NHL in 5 years, I'll be somewhat surprised.

Sucks picking 30th because we have no clue who will still be around. Its hard to get hyped for the draft.

5 would be perfect.. but I refuse to lose a good player over 1 million dollars.

If the best we do is Schneider+Jagr+Cam+Vrbata-Ryder-Volchenkov/Salvador, we're instantly 10 points better than last year. (Assuming we can't get Vanek, Moulson, Stastny)

Cammalleri-Zajac-Jagr
Henrique-Elias-Vrbata
Clowe-Zubrus-Brunner
Carter-Josefson-Ruutu

presto. 2 BETTER top lines, 2 decent bottom lines, especially that 4th.

But I'd definitely like players better than those 2. Vrbata is an ok 2nd liner, but he's not a 30+ goal scorer. BUT, he's better than Ryder. ANYONE is better than Ryder. Ryder made us visibly worse aside from the 2 seconds of time it took him to score a goal every now and then.

Don't really like Cam, but that does make us better. Don't like Elias at center either. Love that fourth line, but Lou is most likely gonna resign Gionta. If we could get rid of Brunner and bring back B. Gionta, I would love that. A guy who I think would make that third line even better would be Mike Richards, I want a guy that is a nature center, physical, and can win face=offs not Zubrus in the middle. I think we could get him cheap with the fact that he's now on the fourth line in LA and cost a lot for a fourth line, 5.7 million. If La could eat 1 million that would be great.

I think that the reality of the matter is that Jagr had a fantastic year and is an incredibly competitive player that will continue to play at a high level.

But, he's a 2nd line player. As such, you don't "need" to bring him back.

You can and that's fine. He's a good fit. He made Zajac better. However, if he moved on, it would not be the end of the world.

I think the focus needs to be more on adding top end team speed to help the forecheck. This team did not have enough speed on the forecheck this year. That was the biggest problem with generating offense.

If you look at someone of these playoff teams like Boston, Chicago, Montreal, San Jose, and Philadelphia...they have big bodies to forecheck, but they also have better top end speed which makes the transition and forecheck so, so much more effective.

New Jersey fell short on the speed aspect this year. That should be the biggest priority moving forward.

Ruutu is not playing on the 4th line. He's at least better than Zubrus. I want to see a Zubrus-Josefson-Sislo 4th line next year.

Vrbata is another streaky scorer. I could see him coming here and being another, slightly better version of Ryder. Wouldn't hate that signing though.

Boston might not be able to afford Iginla without him taking a discount (they're right up against the cap), and he'd be a perfect addition for Pete's system. We play a very similar system as Boston. Bonus, he'd fit in with all of the senior citizens on this team.

Colorado will probably try to re-sign Stastny, and if they want to I see him staying there. If they decide to move on with Mackinnon, Duchene, and O'Reilly as their top 3 centers, Lou needs to snatch him up. 7 years 50 mill+. With the cap going up it's worth it. The only reason he hasn't produced as much the last few years is he's been used in a more defensive role with low offensive zone starts. I'm a fan of Zajac, but Henrique has played better at wing and Elias can play anywhere leaving the 2nd line center (or 1st if you prefer) open if Lou wants to go that direction.

If his cap hit is 5-6 million then that is terrible. If he makes 3 with 2-3 million as bonuses I'm fine then he earns the cobtract . We had jagr at a steal for what he produced let's not over pay for what we might get next year. I think he needs to be resigned but in the ball park of 3.5-4 You never know with these old guys when they will drop off so that has to cone into consideration
