SO I have developed a grudging respect for you Ryan and your blogs. I have appreciated your work throughout the season. So I mean the following with all due respect. Last nights blog felt like you had been itching to write it since the beginning of the playoffs. Like you had already had half that blog written and just needed to cut and paste dates and times. It felt malicious, like a big I TOLD YOU SO. I disagree with you an the proportion of blame but I enjoy the debate. But it was like you couldn't wait, just couldn't wait, to kick fluery when he was down.

MAF deserves every bit on trash that was spoken about him as a goalie...I can't stand people bashing him as a person though...with that said, you don't even see high school goalies doing what he did last night...I do believe if this team doesnt make the finals, it will be blown up...you will see a new coach, and probably everyone but 87, 71, 3, 19, 14 and 9 will field offers. I don't believe MAF will be in Pitts next year...especially at 5 mil a year. You are making that, you don't have the playoff blunders he is constantly having. This team is a hot mess right now..and has one finger on the nuc button.

Ah, the Pens.

First off, I think people need to calm the frak down about Fleury having that gaffe in overtime. Sure, it sucked. But what about the great saves he made throughout the game to that point?

Where are Sid and Geno? Why is the D letting the kind of quality chances the other 3 goals scored?

Why does this team get its back against the wall and fold like a dress on prom day (wait, what?) every time?

This team needs a shake up. They have 2 of the 5 best players on the planet and haven't had a sniff of the cup in quite a while. I'm not even sure it's coaching. Perhaps its you know... the rest of the roster?

Its a combo of a lot of things, poor depth on the wings...a TO machine in Letang on D, MAF with his normal playoff meltdowns...toss in HCDB refusing to adjust and you have the Pens in the playoffs this year. This team has no fire or heart in it...I think they honestly believe they will just go out there and win because of the talent they have.

As far as MAF, I don't care how many great saves he made...he cant make that mistake he made, then follow it up with that goal he allowed in OT. Not when you are making 5 mil a year and have a history of playing very very bad in the playoffs. 08 and 09 are many moons removed...that MAF is never coming back.

I am upset at the fact...Pens are losing the best years of Crosby and Malkin by trying to jam a square peg into a round hole....I blame Shero for some of this mess too...the Scuds move has backfired bad, no backup goalie worth a damn and piss poor winger depth have doomed this team this year.

ive actually been pondering a malkin to LA trade today too. but it doesnt center around doughty. it is a malkin/kopitar affair. kopitar would be beyond perfect for this team as a 2c, and is one of the few players i could make a deal for malkin around.

have always loved Kopitar, no way LA trades him though. I would die for him, but LA would have no reason to dump him. especially for Malkin.

maybe malkin to florida for Huberdau (sp?) + ?

Yeah the Scuds experiment needs to come to an end. He has been terribad. I would take a bag of pucks for him just to get rid of the cap hit. I like Letangs skill set, but question his ability to think the game and make sound decisions. With Neal, I just wait for him to lose his cool and do something stupid.

As far as management. Bylsma playing Scuds in a "shut down" role makes me scratch my head. If anything Scuds should be getting sheltered minutes, the guy is a possession black hole, and we are hemmed in our own zone for long periods when he is on the ice.

Shero is responsible as well. The forward group is thin at wings and our 3rd and 4th lines are a joke.

no trade clause. Malkin goes where he wants. Also limits the return in a small way

i feel as though he might be easier to get than doughty. i honestly wouldnt really even want much more back with him. i wonder if theyll ever get to the point where they want that mega star and offensive flash.

i dont know about a deal with FLA. if we wanted to just punt away for a few years, then yeah. but most of their pieces seem very future oriented. i understand the importance of youth, but if malkin goes, you need some nhl level talent to fill the void now too.

i dont think a malkin deal ever will/can realistically be done. but if we are wandering down that hypothetical road. thats my dream return. involving kopitar. i dont know if i can think of another center id rather have behind crosby as the number 2.

I have consistently written in a plethora of my entries this year that he will be judged solely on how he performs in the playoffs. Here we are again having the same exact discussions about his performance during the playoffs.

Kind of made my point. Did anyone think he wouldn't have a bad game? Hell, he didn't have a bad game, he had a bad few minutes. If this had happened in the 2nd round, third round, finals, would the same blog had come out after that game? probably before fluery had his pads off? Your a blogger not a reporter and as such your allowed to have a strong opinion. But you have generally maintained a fairly level tone to your writing most of the year. It just caught me off gaurd that you pounced so quick yesterday

exactly. if youre going to be accused of having it halfway written and ready to submit, it should be said that youve had going on 3 or 4 years to come up with it. i love fleury, and it literally pains me to finally want to move on, but how many times can you play the same song

honestly. to me as a fan and just someone evaluating the situation as objectively as i can, the truly worrying thing wasnt the beyond the net gaffe. it was the fact that after it occurred, there wasnt a soul on the ice (and no one more than fleury himself) who knew that the game was going to end rather quickly on a soft shot, because that gaffe killed him. he has ALWAYS been a goalie prone to the bonehead play. but when he was younger (not coincidentally the cup years) he was able to bounce back from them.

I personally thought Malkin was a BEAST last night , I know he didn't get a goal but damn ! He was on it. I hope to god Fluery can put that mistake behind him, if not we're f-ed. I'm still optimistic about this series , I BELIEVE !

malkin was great last night for not having tangible results. controlled the puck very well, and even blocked a few shots. his effort was there, and the retaliating penalties werent. if he keeps that up, the numbers will come if given a chance.

Florida can only give you Huberdeau and prospects. That isn't enough for Malkin. That is like the Calgary fan that came and said Monahan, Gaudreau, another prospect and three picks. That doesn't do anything for Pittsburgh in the grand scheme of things except help the farm system out.

No, you probably don;t get the return for Malkin that you should, if he went on the block. There are very few matches here for him. That said, there are few times a player of this magnitude becomes available. If Malkin ever went on the trade block, certain teams would throw the kitchen sink for a chance to get him.

JMO, you get a better return sending them separately. I do think we will see several Letang rumors in the offseason and thus, a trade could happen.

i dont think letang is awful by any means. but god id love to be able to trade him. I would be open to a malkin trade if the deal was incredible, but that likely wont happen. Im still convinced the team can win with him and crosby. letangs is the deal that worries me. it simply isnt worth his current production, nor does it mesh with the makeup of the team.

if i can play ray shero, my offseason tentatively looks like this.

deal letang. Hope for a young, cost controllable NHL ready winger. Im open to suggestions. Depending on how good this player is, im very flexible on the other components coming back with him. I dont expect to get stud winger, stud prospect, and a first.

Orpik can walk

try like hell to rid the team of scuderi. i cant see it happening though.

try very hard to use this cap space to resign niskanen. i would be willing to push 6. that might not get it done, but i would try. I would look to resign jokinen as well, hopefully on approximately a 3 year 10M deal. I would look hard at resigning stempy as well, if he could be had for the same he is making this year.

I will not excuse his play. But every goalie is going to have bad plays. MAF has been showing that at the worst times in recent years. And if he contunes the bad play he should be looked at as potentially being replaced (by what who knows). But he isn't even in the top 5 for reasons this team is TIED for this series. Despite the last two goals he is one of the least of the pens concerns.
