Too much. Barrie needs to take some blame here, take the hit like a man instead of dodging and opening yourself up to injury.

Would rather have Barrie back instead, but at least avs don't have to deal with him for the remainder of the series

Weak considering his history IMO, what's really fair though?

Personally, I think the offending player should be suspended until the injured player is cleared by doctors for return from injury.

'If' Colorado makes it past the first round, my guess is that Barrie misses up to and possibly a few more than 7 games.

Every fan of hockey agrees he should have the book thrown at him, Torres style, and the league (frank)s it up. I can't remember ever hearing fans from both teams agreeing on a players suspension. The league is run by morons. Cooke must have an uncle in the executive suite or something.

Should've gotten the same sentence for going Happy Gilmour on Erik Karlsson's achilles heal last season if yea ask me.. NHL's biggest dirt bag strikes again, is anyone surprised?

Also I'm not blaming the coaches over his careers for any of his malicious attacks on hockey players, but you have to wonder what these guys are saying to him before & after to him on the bench after these shananigans

Because NHL player discipline is a joke.

Cooke only got what he got because of his "priors" and public perception.

Comparatively, no fuss was raised about Bickell and he isn't as high in the public consciousness as Cooke.

But neither got what they deserved, or enough to in any way encourage players to modify dangerous/reckless behaviour. But then that isn't really the objective. They want to just do enough to hav a plausible defence against charges they do nothing.

I am not surprised. No one has ever taken the Department of Player Safety seriously anyways. It is a shame more players will have to be injured by this guy until the league learns its lesson, that is if they ever will.

Lets just move on and hope this guy manages to drown in one of Minnesota's many lakes.

Bickell's while stupid, was nowhere near as flagrant. Also, like it or not (I don't) the league considers injury in making their decision. It's a stupid system that needs fixing.

American viewers also gone. This is such a bush league. It is embarrassing.

No other sport changes it's officiating rules when the playoffs start. There is so much holding, interference, slashing, goalie interference that is not called that it is out of control and no longer a legitimate major league sport.

And that's why a team shouldn't be allowed to replaced a suspended player on the roster for the length of that suspension.

GMs would think twice about signing these goons if they had to play 15 or 20 games with only 17 skaters.

This piece of human trash needs to be banned PERMANENTLY!!!

He has no business playing an honorable game amongst mostly honorable men. Ban this idiot for life and send a message. Simple.

This is exactly the kind of play I had in mind when I posted recently on the "Do you think the Penguins wish they had this jag-off back" thread. He deliberately and repeatedly seeks out vulnerable players and destroys them with a cheap shot.

Cooke gets 7 games but Player Safety is STILL doing it wrong!
Suspensions SHOULD NOT be tied to injury, but rather the legality of the hit.
For this specific suspension both factors tied into the length. Until the league realizes this problem and corrects it, the players still won't know when they've crossed the line unless they are way over it.

As for the length of the suspension, I think it should be 20 games or rest of playoffs, whichever is greater.
