Hey Peter, great article as usual! The big problem for the Jets is that they have not made any major moves since coming to Winnipeg. Chevy needs to move a piece of the core away.

I don't think the Jets should trade Byfuglien. I think he can easily score between 30-40 goals as a winger. Furthermore I think if the Jets are going to move anyone they should consider moving Kane or Enstrom.

Buff will get you more than Enstrom, depends on what you are looking for.
Kane needs to go, I have watched many jets games and especially the last one vs the Avs and he just looks like a selfish player, nothing about him shows that he is a team first guy.

Move Kane and open up a spot in your Top 6 for a heart and soul kind of guy. Kane will be making too much money for too many years just to give you 20 goals a season.

He wont come cheap though, think Seguin trade, high draft pick, 2 good prospects, and a roster player. He isnt worth the price tag to most teams

True, but let's be honest: 2 good prospects? Riley Smith was a roll of dice and Morrow have already been traded twice and has yet to play a single game in the NHL. But yeah, moving Eriksson, was a risky move. I just don't think Kane's value is as high as Seguin, close but still lower.

Personnally, i think the Jets should use Wheeler or Ladd and Bogosian as trade baits. Bogosian has value and is looking lost on this team. A change of scenery would definetly do him some good. Also, Pavelec is just not the answer between the pipes. Halak and Hiller should be on Chevaldayoff's radar this summer would they hit the FA market.

good prospects, sure you can argue that, but they are all known prospects, you wont be packing up 6th and 7th rounder guys for him, thats what I meant by that.

I see them moving Pavs, potentially to the Islanders or Capitals if Halak walks to free agency. Wheeler and Ladd are needed to compete in the west, especially in the centrals. Big forwards that can produce are a lot harder to acquire now.

Enstrom, Kane, and Buff are the whipping boys it seems, one or 2 of them will get shuffled out.

As much as I wouldn't mind shopping Enstrom, left defence is an area of weakness for the JETS, so unless they address that area first, Enstrom is here to stay.

The Jets biggest problem has been is that they have not been able to establish an identity. I think if they make any moves this off season it should be to either:

1. Trade for more home grown talent; or
2. Take advantage of Maurice's ability to coach Russian hockey players and bring them in to bolster our top 6 forwards.

I am not too sure what the contracts of Radulov and Kovalchuk look like in the KHL but can you just imagine a line of Kovalchuk-Scheifle-Wheeler

Also if rumours are true about the Staal or Shenn brothers being available, then I think its time for Chevy to make a big move to acquire them. I think both Carolina and Philadelphia would be excited to get a guy like Kane in return.

Just some thoughts.

Burmistrov should be coming back right? With Noel gone I think he would return and get a fair shake.

Little is a good hockey player but I think you guys need to look hard at him being yoru top line center, is he really the answer or do you move him in a bigger deal to get an upgrade, like you said with Eric Staal, who played well under Maurice once before

Enstrom would be dangerous on the left side of Karlsson. What type of deal would wpg want though ???

I think that Jets have a glaring need for a solid two way centre or a major shutdown d-man. I am not too sure if the Sens have anyone like that.

Having said that, would the Sens be willing to part with prospects like Jean Gabriel Pageau or Mike Hoffman as those would be good places to start!

Maybe we should "trade" Chevy ? We got a coach with more NHL experience - maybe a GM with more NHL experience ?

1. resign Maurice and have him go after 'owned' and 'unowned' Russian talent (an angle he can work)
2. dangle Kane and Bogosian - I've seen 11 games live this year and many more on TV ... we can fill these voids
3. resign Frolik and O'Dell - if the price is right of course but Frolik especially is a keeper ... maybe one of Ellerby / Pardy ... Jokinen if he takes a pay cut
3. all others can walk
4. let's bring the talent up for a good look see at the start next year - Morrisey, Lowry, Petan, etc - give em a chance
5. yes - goaltending ... maybe Pistol Pete is right - buy Pavi out, keep Montoya as back-up .. get a free agent

I'm not ready to pass on Bogosian just yet. Kane by all means, let's see what is available.

Sold! Gryba, Hoffman & Pageau. I think Gryba playing with either Trouba or Bogosian becomes better. Pageau has the potential to be a 2-3 Center like Vermette could have been for Ottawa and I have been impressed by Hoffman's speed and the guy is versatile enough that he can play the point on the power play.
