It was okay when Pittsburgh did it, It was okay when Chicago did it. It was okay for 3 years in a row when Edmonton did it. We are applauding Colorado for their turn around after landing MacKinnon (and Duchene and Landeskog and...)...

But when Buffalo decides to rebuild the very same way these teams did it -- through selling off all assets and obtaining new ones at the top of the draft -- the league wants to cut it off.

It has nothing to do with GM's or the league against "tanking" and everything to do about McDavid.

I completely agree. It seems that McDavid (next generational star?) has the NHL worried that teams will tank and they see the Sabres already doing it in preparation. They do not want this, so they quickly plan to find a way to change the standards after the Sabres are in the middle of the rebuild plan.
Conveniently they needed a lottery for Crosby and now McDavid = need to be fair shot to get him no matter what team. Esp the teams that have poor attendance (i.e. Florida - whom conveniently is where the 2015 draft will be...)

I'm okay with it, even if the Sabres are the team getting "screwed" by it. Any league that takes steps to stop rewarding failure becomes instantaneously better.

the scrappy Swede was injured in a collision with Montreal winger Brendan Gallagher. The Habs forward was shoved into Enroth by Sabres defenseman Jamie McBain. Gallagher made no attempt to avoid Enroth.

sigh.

No team has ever been proven to tank a season except the year the Penguins did it for Mario. And even that is circumstantial.

How are teams going to get better if they are one of the worst teams year after year and miss out on the best players? Look no further than the NBA and lack of parity due to their lottery system. That league is run by 3 or 4 teams. 9 different champions over a 30 year stretch? Sounds competitive.

Go look at the Penguins roster the year they drafted Crosby. Not to mention they had Eddie Olczyk as their head coach. Tank

If Buffalo wasnt rebuilding (politically correct term for tanking) around the time McDavid was in play, it wouldnt be as big of a deal to Buffalo fans. It just feels like a slight to us by the league that our rebuild coincides with a generational talent and all of a sudden after years of teams drafting high in the draft for consecutive years it was never addressed but now that Buffalo is doing it and vocal about it, the league wants to do something. And lets also add in that the GM's are nixing the individual team combines because Buffalo had 85 kids come last year and came away with a monster draft.

Whether McDavid was available next year or not, Buffalo was still going to tank ("rebuild") to get the elite talent the only way a team with no more expendable assets can get it ... at the top of the draft.

It would be hard to prove that a team is tanking. If they are referring to a team trading assets for rebuilding then I think that is not smart.

The sabres roster could potentially look like this in 2years

Ennis hodgson Girgenson
Reinhart grigorenko armia
Larson McDavid deslaurier

Myers McCabe
Ristolanen zadorov
Pysyk

This really ain't much of a stretch plus whoever else we draft with our a million other picks.

The team to watch for is Vancouver. Watching their moves and their slide seems like a team that will be in the McDavid mix. If they keep Gillis that will seal their candidacy.

Spoken like an accountant. A team rebuilding is not tanking on purpose . The lottery is already weighted against team finishing last more than any other pro leagues .Alright for all your power franchises to do it . Just like now prohibiting teams from doing their own combines now . Definitely a move directed at Buffalo . Wonder if Lafontaine had some influence in the NHL offices on these two policy changes ?

Any word on whether or not Taro Tsujimoto is going to come across to NA for the remainder of the season?

Hodgson will be here .He is young signed to very cap friendly contract . Maybe if we stopped trading his linemates he will find his game again.

No I have heard some stories out of First Niagara about how Patty can be at times . Nothing would surprise me . You don't find it the least bit odd that these proposed new NHL policies came after Patty left ? Nothing would surprise me at this point. I loved Patty when he played here and loved when Terry hired him . Just the timing on all these things seems to be more than a coincidence.

These were all suggestions coming out of individual GM committees at their annual meeting, not things handed down by the NHL directly.

So no, I don't find the coincidental timing at all odd.

And the NHL offices have nothing to do with Suggestions being floated by the GM's at the meetings ? These new proposed policies are direct shots at Buffalo's organization. I find the new proposed policy about teams not being able to hold their own combines the most ludicrous. If you go to the grocery store do you not look over the steaks before you pick one ? If a team is willing to take on the expense of holding their own combines good for them . NFL teams bring players in for individual workouts before the draft , so do NBA teams. Not the NHL the old school gets its way again.

He plays ZERO defense, doesn't hustle and isn't scoring. Not Teddy hockey. He will be gone at the draft this year. Remember where you heard it.

He is still young . People don't want to recognize that . Has the best off season work ethic on the team , Been through 3 coaches in his short time here, not too mention umpteen line mates that have been traded away. And he is a smart hockey player . His game will get turned around. Players will not get traded because of Teddy it is Mr Murray's decision who stays and who goes.
