Gotta stay out of the penalty box as much as possible tonight. Ovie got both his goals yesterday on the PP.
EDIT - 'today' |

It seems like every star player has eye-popping numbers against the Flyers. |

The east really is wide open this year. The pens are the pens and are very capable of losing the first round. The Bruins I think are the strongest team with a declining Chara.
The West is where the powerhouses are
Reminds me of 2010 actually |

With the trade deadline approaching and Carolina fading fast, I wouldn't mind if the Flyers tried to get Manny Malhotra. He's basically a faster, slightly more skilled version of Hall and he's just as good on faceoffs. Plus I doubt the cost to get him would be more than a 6th or so. |

I'd be in on that, I have always liked Manny. He's a good depth guy and great faceoff man. |

Yep...just wish he hadn't been playing in that game against the Flyers where Mason had a shutout until 53 seconds left...damned OT breakaways |

A fine Streit play trying to dangle at the blue line with no teammate behind him led to that breakaway, iirc.
If players (Hartnell!) take bad penalties today I hope Berube holds them accountable. |

started yesterdays game with two minors started on first pp unit |

The Flyers are still a Jekyll and Hyde team not only from game to game but from period to period. Teams like that don't have much season long success let alone any playoff success. |

He does seem to reward some guys when they are playing well with more ice, Simmonds and Couts come to mind. But Hartnell and G can screw up and they still will get their minutes... Sigh.
Of course that line had a terrific shift leading up to the 4th goal yesterday so maybe Berube knows what he is doing.
Loved the Band references, fitting end to a wacko thread. |

I think I'd let G play through it, too, but when Hartnell gets a case of the dumbs, I'd prefer he watched for a little while. I don't think that's Berube's style though.
That last thread took a nosedive overnight. Sometimes it's good to mix things up a bit in the AM.

The penalty issue is a big problem with this team. That game yesterday could've been over in the first 5 minutes. The problem with benching players or using ice time to hold players accountable, doesn't work. Anything gained from it is only short term. The players themselves have to hold each other accountable.

I was hoping to see him put Rafl in Hartnell's spot for a few shifts yesterday.
He really has great wheels and is fun to watch with G. |

This is right.
The problem is (at times anyway), the veteran players who should be setting the example are guilty of taking the penalties.
Hartnell wears an A. He needs to be better or at least avoid the dumb penalties. |

I'm not sure it's that cut-and-dried. When you have a guy whose head isn't where it should be - Hartnell was still shaking his head on the bench at one point well after his shift was over yesterday - sometimes a small coach-mandated 'rest' might just snap him out of it.
Would it have worked yesterday? Who knows. Luckily, he came around in the 3rd period. I hope it carries over to today's game.

Good game yesterday. Flyers competed for most of the game. They tried to give the game away there, but made it through! |
