Bill, why is it Gus that sits?

Gus: 10 points in only 27 games, leads team in plus/minus with a plus 9.

Coburn: 11 points in 60 games, minus 7, and from what I have seen, has had more trouble than anyone clearing the puck out of the zone.

Coburn is the Flyers' most mobile defenseman even though he has a huge frame and, while he has always been a bit inconsistent, can also play at a high level at times.

Gustafsson sits because it is perceived at times that he best doesn't use his assets -- puck-movement and mobility -- and gets too easily pushed around by bigger forwards in the defensive zone.

Gustafsson is generally shielded in easier matchups than Coburn gets, so his plus-minus against Coburn's really isn't a good indicator of their respective value.

I'm hoping for a bounce back game, terrified that the Flyers will make a dumb trade by Wednesday

Meszaros-Schenn is an awful pairing. Schenn has played much better when paired with Gus.

As much as I hated the Streit signing, at least you could kind of follow the reasoning behind it, no matter how flawed.

Vinny was simply a WTF signing.

Streit is fine, in fact if they had/keep him on the 1st PP unit where he belongs, his numbers look even better. Vinny is a train wreck who cant do any of the little things that need to get done at LW.

I thought with Vinny signed they'd be committed to B Schenn at the LW. Have his growing pains there and maybe turn into a Dustin Brown, who was a center early in his career. But Schenn has taken a step this year playing center, and Vinny is completely useless as Simmonds is a natural RW and Vinny is a square peg in a round hole.

Really, stating Vinny was simply a WTF signing is all personal opinion. I think it was a great signing and makes perfect sense.

Naw, it had nothing to do w/ Brayden Schenn or the way the roster looked... they just bought out Briere partly b/c the the forward jigsaw wasn't working and Schenn had already shown that he was more effective up the middle.

Homer/Snider saw Vinny out there, chucked the plan, and said how can this guy not make us better? Well, I think they're getting a pretty clear answer to that now.

I'm really hoping they have enough sense to ask Timonen to approve a trade to a contender. If he agrees, I'd offer him and our 2nd in 2014 to Anaheim for Ottawa's 1st in 2014 which they acquired in the Ryan deal.

If they make that trade, they should end up with at least one and possibly 2 lottery picks this year.

Vancouver trades Ryan Kesler and Alex Edler to Philadelphia for Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier and Andrej Meszaros.

And previously, Coburn had to go. How is a player like Lecavalier, who has been a very good player his entire career, suddenly completely useless? Give him a chance to get healthy and adjust to the LW position.

Pretty much. If you are going to sign VL, you sign him to play center and flank him with 2 speedy wingers who can get him the puck. The only way the signing made sense was if they were committed to making B Schenn a winger, since they obviously aren't, I'm just not sure how VL is going to effectively fit into this lineup.

Briere wasn't bought out partly because the forward jigsaw wasn't working. He was bought out because his effectiveness, regardless of where he played was taking a nose dive. And they needed the Cap flexibility. Again, the injury to Lecavalier is being ignored here.

If they could replace Couturier with this years 1st, and a lesser prospect like McGinn or Cousins, I would do that deal.

He's producing points, but still not filling their need for a guy who can transition the puck from D to O... like Kimmo does, and Carle/Pronger did. They're also losing the possession game when he's on the ice.
