I would avoid trading Danault if at all possible. He is projects as your closest Kruger clone, and I would imagine Kruger will be moved along after this deal ends - for Cap reasons on the Hawks end and wanting a bigger role on Kruger's end. |

"GMs have lots of discussions. I would guess about 1 in 25 of those discussions become actual trades. If you don't think scouts, coaches, agents, players, even maintenance personnel aren't aware of or overhear some of these conversations, i have a bridge I want to sell you. If you don't think some people share them with bloggers or writers or reporters, you're wrong."
For those non-believers, I can confirm 100% this is exactly how it works. I work in sports marketing so I deal with leagues, teams, players, agents, etc. and this is the drill. In fact I was just at the NFL scouting combine and saw GMs meeting in all different places from restaurants to hotel lobby bars. I also spoke to agents there who even told specifics GMs met and spoke about players and some who kicked around ideas. And sometimes stuff leaks whether its done intentionally or by someone who has heard something in passing.
So take rumors as what they are which are rumors but there's a helluva lot more talk than actual deals. For those of you in businesses that require ideas to be brainstormed, normally 20-30 ideas or thought starters are thrown on the wall but only 1 or 2 actually make it. Same situation with trade discussions converting into actual trades. |

Without a doubt the best description I have read to put rumors in their proper context. Cheers |

I have no doubt this is true, but there's nothing that's more amateur hour than someone who's allegedly a professional at what they do using their platform to take on a heckler.
it's like a pro hockey player stepping in front of the cameras to let the media know that the fan behind the bench chewing him is an idiot.
in other words, it's like being john tortorella.
... it just looks bad. |

1. Bloggers don't need to be professionals at what they do. They are bloggers, not journalists
2. Sometimes it just feels good to shoot back
3. These sound an awful lot like the words of someone with only 44 followers
And BTW, if the Pens are interested in Leddy, we'll take Brandon Sutter please. |

JJ, I appreciate the time you spend to keep up informed, so please take this comment as stated with the best intentions...but why do you need to address the twitter troll with 44 followers? Who gives a shyte about what anyone says? Haters gonna hate.
Keep up the good work. |

1.. and they always will be with that approach.
2. fair enough.
3. they should sound like the words of someone who doesn't have a twitter account, and doesn't feel the need to be 'followed'.
either way, it takes away credibility as far as i'm concerned. not saying I've seen anything bad from the guy, because I haven't. just saying it comes across as bush league, and someone with his ability and reach is very above it. |

You say 1 in 25 conversations result in trades but I'd bet its even far higher than that. Likely less than 1 in 100 conversations probably turn into completed deals.
So what would you think of Gagner for Bickell plus maybe a late pick? Similar salaries. Gagner reunited with Kane.?
Thoughts? |

I can buy into the idea that the Hawks are interested in the Isles' McDonald. His cap hit is at the league minimum, and with Kostka getting waived over the weekend, it would make sense that Bowman would go after another defenseman, as Al has been saying.
I also believe that at least one of Pirri or Morin will eventually be moved. I've been saying that for most of the season. |

>Thanks, JJ -- very much appreciate the time and effort you put in
>Think the Bickell news works on two fronts: letting Bickell know he is in play which hopefully gets him to play better and possibly using him in a trade to make the team better (how, I do not know)
>Also think the Jagr and Ladd interest indicates that the FO would love to have some more size upfront as long as there is a good hockey IQ to go with it (how this happens, I do not know) |

Amac turned down a 4 year 16 mill offer from NYI. He thinks he's worth more? I sure don't.
What would you guys offer him if you got him? |

Not necessarily. He's being paid $1.3 mil annually now, and after his contract expires following next season, what could be a realistic demand on his end for a new contract? He's a 4th-line center who kills penalties. That is his role and he understands it. Teams will not be looking to pay a premium for those kinds of players. Would a $2.5 million dollar contract be worth retaining Krugs? Absolutely. He's having a career year and is still only 23-years-old. He's too pivotal to the 'Hawks to lose. They will not let him walk under any circumstance.
Danault could certainly be expendable, and if the right deal comes along, you have to absolutely pounce. Krugs is almost a core player on this team. |

Played with Rockford for four years. He was the best offensive d-man during his tenure here too. |

You can drop the "D-man" label. No one has ever accused that guy of playing defense. |

After about 3 games of Peter (frank)ing Regin playing 2C, I might be crazy enough to do that. Getting smaller up front is about the last thing the Hawks should do. IMO. Pass. |
